Saw this today:
"With Quinn's signing, the Dolphins presently have 74 players under contract, and that doesn't include the nine rookies drafted, who have not signed contracts. NFL teams can only take 80 players to training camp, which opens in late July."

Hmmm....74 + 9 = 83...80 = 83 - 3 (yes, I are an engineer)

So, who are the 3 cut BEFORE training camp? Not the ones you want cut (Wilford I think because of cap reasons won't be cut until later) but who do you think realistically gets a pink slip before training camp even starts?

I found these dates for OTAs:
Organized Team Activities - May 18-19, May 21, May 26, May 28-29, June 1-2, June 4, June 8-9, June 16-18
Mandatory Minicamp - June 12-14

So the UFAs will get a thorough looking at before camp begins.

With 74 players under contract, nobody gets cut. We can still add 6 of players, possibly some of those UFA's we brought in.

The way the article went we have 74 under contract INCLUDING signed UFAs with the 9 draftees still unsigned. We can still bring people in but the 80 training camp limit actually is the start of cut downs, best as I can understand. Am I wrong?

That's 74 before the draftees are signed..reread it.. with them signing, then it goes to 83, 3 too many for TC.

Hmm. I would not be suprised to see Reggie Torbor be cut. Jason Allen seems like he will be gone. And I'd say a lesser d-lineman or o-lineman will get cut. But i suspect Torbor will not be on the team when the season starts.

not wilford he gets all the money and theres no poin to cut him hes not a problem wilford is just a big question mark holding miamis money ....no sense to cut him early

It will be 3 undrafted or futures players, I'd be suprise to see actual players from last year's team cut that early..

Well, we have:
11 wide receivers (Ginn, Camarillo, Bess, London, Turner, Hartline, Wilford, Armstrong, Lowber, Williams, Marion)
5 tight ends (Fasano, Martin, Haynos, Nalbone, Bronson)
6 tackles (Long, Carey, Frye, Nate Garner, Andrew Gardner, Rogers)
9 guards/centers (Smiley, Grove, Thomas, Ndukwe, Berger, Alleman, Murphy, Lewis, Quinn)
3 QBs (Pennington, Henne, White)
2 FB (Polite, Chris Brown)
5 RBs (Ronnie Brown, Williams, Cobbs, Hilliard, Kimble)
7 DEs (Langford, Merling, Starks, McDaniel, Wright, Dotson, Baker)
4 NTs (Ferguson, Solai, Cohen, Ellis)
8 OLBs (Porter, Roth, Wake, Anderson, Moses, George, Walden, Martin)
5 ILBs (Crowder, Ayodele, Kershaw, Torbor, Folsom)
9 CBs (Will Allen, Green, Smith, Davis, Jones, Jason Allen, Thomas, Billingsley, Babers)
6 safeties (Bell, Wilson, Bryan, Culver, Clemons, Kilmer)
2 punters (Fields, Bond),
1 kicker (Carpenter)
1 LS (Denney)
84 total (75 signed players plus 9 unsigned draftees [bold])

They haven't been offered contracts, so as far as we know it is only 74. You are guessing that we will sign all 9 of the guys we brought in for tryouts, and I can assure you that wont happen. Chances are they will only sign 6, instead of signing 9 and then cutting 3 a week later.

No, the nine the article referred to are the nine draftees (Davis, White, Smith, Turner, Hartline, Clemons, Nalbone, Gardner, Folsom) who are not yet under contract and are not counting against the 80 limit (yet). Not talking about unsigned UDFAs.

Hmmm, adding up the numbers I came to 84. Did someone already get let go or is the article wrong (gasp)?

Bond (punter) is my guess for the first cut. Reports from rookie camp were not promising.

I think they will cut the loser of the Nalbone-Bronson battle. Which in my opinion is just a competition for who is going to make it to the practice squad because I don't see either one of them unseating the 6'7'' monster in Joey Haynos. Still, I see Nalbone winning this one out.

I hate to say it because i think he has the coolest football name outside Arnaz Battle, but I don't see Scorpio Babers going very far with all the influx of DB's.

Lastly, I think the bottom of the receiver battle is going to be similar to the TE competition. Its going to come down to who impressed Sparano and Co. more during rookie mini-camps. Chris Williams or Brennan Marion. But hey, if both of them show enough spark, You might as well bid Todd Lowber adue.
