After the initial excitement of reading that Jeff "Rasputin" Ireland was canned, a dark cloud began to hover over my head...

Who within this organization will be the one leading the search for a new GM? If Ross plays any large part in this, I fear that we may end up with a replacement even worse than Ireland... One thing we know about this organization is that there is a serious vacuum of football knowledge at the top. Most of Ross' most trusted advisors are business guys - SUITS. The only trusted advisor he has with serious football experience is Carl Peterson, and he reportedly sided with keeping Ireland on all these years. Who else? Curtis Martin? The "Leadership Council" of Dungy, JT and Marino?

Does anyone know who is leading the search?

I'd be willing to bet the council is going to make suggestions, Aponte will have input as well. I'd love for the first call to go to Duke Tobin.

I saw a Darlington tweet that said there are already inquiries for possible GMs about Miami is going to do. He said that because of the talent on the team and the large cap room, a lot of potential GMs like the Miami gig. So hopefully Ross will see that and not just chose from those on his personal wish list.

I told everyone on another forum be careful what you wish for as you might gt it with Ireland gone. Right now it seems Apnte is in charge of footall oerations.

The gm will be Brian Gaines I'm sure, there won't be much of a search. Hire in house or get rid of philbin then look. Any new gm would want their head coach

Would bet that Ross already has a short list probably from discussions with Peterson and/or the advisory group.

In fact, wouldn't surprise me if Ross hasn't already had secret discussions with the lead candidate and may have in fact already come to a handshake agreement with that person.

So pretty much Darlington is putting blame on Philbin!

According to this: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/07/report-ross-wanted-to-take-power-away-from-ireland/, Ross actually wanted to keep Ireland on but strip him of final say by adding a "czar" type person above him ala Parcells. If that was the case, I doubt he has any handshake agreement with anyone. It seems like Peterson may become the Czar and he will hire the new GM. Might be Gaine.

I would think this would be a very attractive job in NFL circles. The salary cap room, the QB situation is good, Ross is a good owner (despite what many might think) and the team has some good talent to work with and there is only one direction to go...and that is up.

I think we can have our pick of the litter regarding candidates.

There is just one very serious problem... Ross will hamstring the new GM with Joe Philbin. I can guarantee that Ross will require that any potential GM candidate must accept Philbin as his HC. That will put a serious damper on things, unfortunately.

This is a real problem however, it can be easily overcome by either letting the new GM decide immediately or, immediately following next year's season. Ross gives Phailbin a year without Sherman and Jeffy, then lets the chips fall where they may.

I see people are coming to the things I thougt about weeks ago.

But Joe Philbin is well respected around the league. Less so on Finheaven.

A guy like Bill Polian would work well with Philbin. Just throwing a name out there on a guy who is well aware of our situation here and who has a good track record.

Serious question, just out of curiosity... What would be a gm's duties, if they don't have control over football operations?
