Who do you guys think will be the guy. IMO I think Patrick Cobb will be the guy to get the spot........we need a guy with some size to be able to take a pounding if Ronnie goes down. Booker is just too small to handle a starters load in the NFL. Anyone else have some suggestions?

Do you think the "juggernaut" will get carries out of the backfield?

Patrick Cobb really impressed last preseason with NE but Jesse Chatman has a little more size and Cam is familiar with his abilities as a runner from their day in San Diego. It will probably come down to who can contribute more on special teams.

Mauia may get some carries but he will primarily be a backup to Schlesinger and a lead blocker.

The "juggernaut" question is really alluding to the possibility of maybe 3rd tailback by committee. Just curious to see how it goes. I wish we would have signed Morris to a deal, but I think the pats might have given him too much money.

The only reason to even consider a 3rd tailback by committee is if Ronnie Brown goes down for an extended period of time, similar to what he did last year. Even then, I doubt if Mauia get many carries. It will be up to Booker and either Cobbs or Chatman to carry the load. It will also mean that the passing game will play a bigger role in the game planning.

Screens and strecth plays might be the only way Booker can handle the extra workload this season. By that I mean the 16 game schedule, and the increased physical nature of the game.

Would Mauia even be an active member of the 45 man gameday roster? I think he'll make the final 53 man, but unless Schlesinger is hurt, I can't see the juggernaut getting on the field this year.

As for 3rd running back, IMO it's gonna be Jesse Chatman based on familiarity with Cam in San Deigo.

I would think Jesse Chatman, Patrick Cobbs, and Ray Perkins; in that order. Lorenzo Booker would not have his role changed that much if Ronnie went down, IMO, not in his rookie year. I don't see Mauia getting many touches, even if he makes the 53-man roster and even if he's active on gameday. At the end of the day I think it all comes down to: a) familiarity with the system b) ability to pick up the blitz c) whoever shows the best overall running skills in Training Camp and d) versatility: running, receiving, blocking, and Special Teams including kick and punt return ability.--That being said, a) goes to Chatman, b) goes to Chatman c) tie between Chatman and Cobbs at this point d) tie between Chatman and Perkins.

Winner for 3rd RB at this point: Jesse Chatman

I really think we need to add Corey Dillon. Not so much because I dont like any of these guys spoken of. Just mainly if Ronnie goes down we have a proven veteran that can get the job done for a few games. Not only that the guy knows how to run in the red zone. This would be a huge plus.

Booker would still be used primarily in a 3rd down role but, you could still give him several carries a game for now on other downs. If he does well on those he can earn more.

Having Dillon gives us basically a 3 headed monster and the ability to mix in Brown on some 3rd downs. He is a very good receiver in his own right and if Dillon takes 6 or 7 carries a game and Booker gets 3 or 4 on 1st and 2nd downs, this would allow Ronnie to stay fresher and play a few more 3rd downs than he could without Dillon.

Dillion can do the little things that help to win games, not lose yards, block, catch out of the back field..but Dillion just seems like a step backwards to me at least.

I think it will Chatman, Cameron likes guys who know his system.

As you saw by my post I certainly agree that he can do the little things that help us win. So if you say that too, how can you see it as a step backward????

Its a guy your bringing in for one year to help you win games. Hes an asset to our team. Its not like were goin out there to try and get to 8 wins and hope we improve year by year. Were goin out there to compete and try and win as many games as we can.

This guy could be a huge difference maker for us. If were an 9 win team without him he could get us in the playoffs. If were a 10 or 11 win team without him he could make us a champion. I dont know why we arent all over this guy seeing as he has expressed interest in coming to Miami reportedly.

How many times are there perfect fits like this out there. A guy who has a year left in him, veteran, world championship experience, former all pro, still holds the record for most yards in a game(I think), and you dont need to count on him to pull the load. Its just too perfect. And he is a former patsy. You know how much Bellichick hates it when teams in the division sign his players. Isnt that what his grudge with Mangini was over because they were friends and he didnt think that was cool for a friend to do. Plus hes gotten a couple of our guys.

The problem with signing Dillion is we have young backs, and we may just be relying on a name and a past performance.

That would be sort of like signing Troy Vincent and saying "You loved him in 98" We have to think forward if you know what I mean, I am not against siging Dillion per se, I am against the reliance on past performance to predict future results.

For me, it would make sense to try out Reagan Mauia, if he flops then maybe Dillion, but I suspect we will see some good backs cut after TC.

Well said man and I agree. It should be interesting to see if we carry 4 running backs or 2 fullbacks. I think we should go 4 deep at RB with Cobbs and Chatman, and assign Mauia to practice squad and just hope he doesn't get signed off it.

I would have to say J. Chatman. Cam brought him in because he knows the system and knows what Chatman can bring to the table. As a first year head coach you want to take a little amount of chances as possible.
