Someone suggested that Ronnie Brown is better than Adrian Peterson, and as I was sitting on the throne, it got me to thinking. Who is the most overhyped phins player on finheaven?

I cam up with what I feel is the 10 best candidates(not that I necessarily think each player on the list is overrated, as I will expand). As I created the list, I started to realize it seems as though based on what you read on here, that Cam and Mueller got fired after having the greatest draft in the history of the NFL. I mean we know that Ginn is as of now a pretty good receiver and has a chance to be a solid #1 receiver for us as he improves. Outside of that, did Cam and Mueller hit on EVERY PICK?????

In alphabetical order the list......I will assign between 1 and 4 stars based upon my perception of how much credibility or "star power", love, or whatever you want to call it that I believe a player gets. How good I really think he is I will discuss.

1) Jason Allen*** - Heres a guy that did improve down the stretch last year. I think maybe the statistic of 3 INTs might be what makes people think he is all of the sudden a solid player. Im just not sure. The guy was just terrible whenever he got in there for a year and a half. Personally he needs to show he can be solid in either a backup role player job or starting job for a full season before I consider him a good player based on how ridiculously bad he was for a year and a half.

2) John Beck**** - Do I need to expand on this or can you just read my many posts in the Beck threads?

3) Yeramiah Bell*** - Heres a guy that to me was a very good role player. Brought some pass rushing skills to the safety position and seemed to be around the ball alot when he was a role player. As a starter it seemed like he almost took a step back. I know he gets alot of credit around here for being a solid player. Is he?

4) Lorenzo Booker*** - Heres a guy who showed some flashes down the stretch. Alot of it was in situations where he made some receptions vs a laid back defense and caught the ball in the open field though. Good player I think. But, I feel like his celing is a very good 3rd down/change of pace guy. But, hey thats pretty good. Nice player. I think he will stick around for a while. He gets alot of credit already though.

5) Ronnie Brown**** - Great player. I think he is better than most running backs in the NFL. True beast. But, seriously, the guy gets almost Marino like hype around here. He isnt the best back in the league. I dont even think he is top 5. He has certainly shown flashes and had short stretches of games where he looks like he can be top 3. But, he hasnt done it over a full season yet. Cant just give the guy credit for something he hasnt done just because its possible. Truly untouchable on this site and really the reason for this thread(although I wont vote him the most overrated because he is a really good player and IMHO one of the better backs in the league.)

6) Channing Crowder** - Finally some people have realized he just isnt very good at all. This guy going into last year takes this award hands down. Since the day he was drafted, up till sometime during last year, you couldnt tell anyone around here that he wasnt the eventual replacement for Zach and that we wouldnt miss a beat when he did. Rubbish. Crowder is garbage. The sooner he is off the team the better. To top it off he is a moron.

7) Derek Hagan** - Heres another guy that up till last season people swore by him. Some still do, thats why he is on the list. He just isnt very good right now. Still has SOME potential. Might be a good player sometime. He just isnt right now. He is also in danger of losing his roster spot IMHO if we add another receiver through FA or draft.

8) Reagan Mauia*** - Again, Did Cam and Mueller hit on every pick???? Was this the greatest draft ever? He has Crowder potential in the fact that since the day he was drafted everyone has been convinced he will be great and everyone has just went along with that theory. Im not sold on him. There might be a time a year or two from now when everyone is talking about he is nothing or a time where he isnt even mentioned at all. He might be really good though. We will see. I think having a cool nickname helped build his cred around here.

9) Drew Mormino** - Some people are ready to hand this guy the LG spot and assume that he will be solid there. Based on what? Cam picked him? I forgot every pick last year was a bullseye. He hasnt even played a game yet.

10) Sampson Satele*** - Another solid Mueller/Cam pick. WOW! How did these guys lose their jobs? This guy though IMO is the goods. I thought he did a fine job starting every game for us at C last year. I expect good things out of him. Might not be perinial all pro like some people have already given him credit for on here, but a good player nontheless. I think we have a guy we can pencil in at C for years to come.

On this site, every Dolphins is over-hyped. Its a great site for solid Fins information, but the homerism is a bit much. I remeber when I was posting how stupid I thought the Duante Culpepper trade was, comparing it to a wanny move, it got moved to spam.

On a postive note Wv, Will Allen has to be the most underrated player on FH, he had a good season for a really bad team.

Samson Satele is the goods, he needs another year at a high level and to avoid the sophomore blues, but he was rock solid for us.

Vern Carey...3 sacks at LT? way underrated, you'd think he was Todd Wade over there..

To early to tell with Reagan, didn't look bad, didn't look great.

JA, my goodness, he played well, he played poorly, he produced, he looked lost in coverage at times, he has a nose for the football and is a hitter, but the blown assignments may consign the guy to the pine under Sparano/Tuna.

LBook, well he did win the Halo 3 Championship after missing 3 months of Sundays gave him time to learn his trade...

You should have included Ted Ginn. I have seen no receiver in history of the Phins get so much hype on so little results. This is not to say Ginn is not good but after only his rookie year its far from a foregone conclusion that he will be a great player except on this board of course.

To me its a hard choice between Ronnie and John Beck.
Beck on one hand people canot allow themselves to possibly believe that Beck will not be better than the player the team passed on in the first.
Beck was not good last year, but was a rookie so i refuse to call him a bust but on the other hand its just as foolish to call him a stud based on the same lack of evidence.

I choose Ronnie Brown not based on him not being a good player but just based on his value related on this board as compared to other backs in the league.

Very seldom do people equate a 1 time 1000 yard rusher in three seasons as one of the five best backs in the league. Any other back that produces better than Ronnie only does that because of some other mitigating factor.
Larry Johnson has great years back to back and any back could run behind that line and he has a bad injury plagued year and he sucks.

Adrian Peterson only did well because he had a great line and so on.

On those very reasons I choose Brown. Overrated just means not as good as
people think. Does not mean I dont think he is a good back.

how about we just support are young core of players that have potential. Who cares if we overrate them.

MATT ROTH we have some man crushes on here .this guy is in a make or break year

Great point about Will Allen. I have been screaming about that. I thought about starting a most underrated thread too. He wouldve been my vote as well. It took me a while to put this together though. So if you want to start that thread.....feel free.(Not that you couldnt anyway, just letting you know I wont start it).

Also for anyone who even thinks it, this thread I started has nothing to do with me and the Beck/Ryan debate. I just thought this would spark an interesting conversation and honestly, Im kinda tired of the Beck/Ryan thing right now. Maybe tomorrow I will get into that some more. In fact Im sure I will. Just been on here all day and wanted to start an interesting conversation. The whole Ronnie thing is what made me think of starting this one.

Definitely Mauia... he ran through one thin, crumbling piece of dry wall and suddenly he's Lorenzo Neal.

I considered putting Ginn on the list. But, I just didnt feel like too many people swear he is already elite, and combine that with the fact that IMHO he is pretty good already, I left him off.

I think he will be a solid player for us. If I felt an inordinate amount of people swear he is already a top 15 receiver in the league I wouldve added him as a choice. I thought you might say him Lockz.

with BP and company running the show that list of 10 you have up there could be minus 4 or 5 if they dont get their heads out of their you know what in training camp and pre season

MATT ROTH we have some man crushes on here .this guy is in a make or break year

He was another consideration, but I felt like over the course of the year most people realized he isnt good. Crowder on the other hand still has some solid backers even though a good bit of people realize he isnt good. Roth definately has some people though that swear he is a good DE.

I dont have a problem with that. I just wanted an interesting discussion.

And to be honest it does bother me a little to an extent when players are too highly valued. Like the fact that Ronnie gets almost Marino like treatment by some on here does bother me a little. He is definately good, but lets get serious. He isnt on that level yet where he should be untouchable. I have no problem with homerism. In fact Im quite the homer myself. But, its like certain players get homerism OVER the team by some people around here.
