Who is your favorite non Dolphin athlete of all time

I did say he fought some greats. Reading is good.......R-E-A-D-I-N-G is good.

I don't know if I agree with you (didn't see many of Ali's fights). But that was a G-O-O-D one! :rofl3:

I have watched many Ali fights, and I've come to the conclusion that a lot of the people who he fought had almost no boxing skills what so ever. Yeah, he fought some great fighters, but some of them flat out sucked hairy ones. I guess all champs fight a few bozos, but I was watching one of Ali's fights on ESPN Classic last weekend, and I believe that anyone of today's boxers could have whipped the guy that Ali was fighting. (And probably much quicker too.) That's not the first time I've watched one of his fights, and come away with the feeling that the competition just sucked.

That's because ESPN runs the same three fights over and over again. They'll show him against Chuvalo, Wepner, and the first Liston fight, and that's about it. He fought during what is considered a golden age in heavyweight boxing and beat everybody they put in front of him. Like many boxers, however, he stuck around past his prime and suffered a couple of embarrasing losses.

Just to throw my two cents in...Muhammad Ali is the single most important athlete in the history of sport. He was the first (and pretty much only) sports figure to make himself a public and political figure that transcended his sport. I've read several biographies on the guy and am continually amazed. You can argue about whether or not he's a hero, but I think you have to agree that he was one of a kind. In this day and age, no athletes are willing to put themselves on the line the way he did because they fear they may make themselves less marketable. And those that do put themselves out there do it mainly for selfish reasons. There's nobody out there today who will speak out on the matters of race as boldly as Ali did, and he did in the jim crow era. And he also remains the single most charismatic athlete this world will ever see. Today we see athletes recycle the same old cliches in different order to make a sentence. With Ali you always knew you were going to get something new, and you were probably going to laugh. "I'm gonna beat him so bad he'll need a shoe horn to put his hat back on" :rofl3: As far as draft dodging is concerned, why should have he gone over? He put it best himself when he said "I aint got no quarrel with them vietcong. No vietcong ever called me n***er." On top of that, he was unbelievably savvy in the ring. He had an uncanny ability to adapt to who he was fighting and completely dictate the action in the ring. I have to say that Ali is my personal favorite and a hero, and I'm a republican.

Other favorites are Kevin Garnett, Malik Sealy, Cal Ripken, and Miguel Tejada. And I HATE KOBE BRYANT :fire:

I dont know, Earl Campbell is nuts. Also, my favorite player ever, Eddie George. He is such a good guy, plus I used to love to watch him run.

Mine is Peyton manning. Love the way he competes and how classy he is. If you could compare anyone to Marino(you can't, but if you could) It would be Peyton.

I.M.O. the greatest fighter of all time is Sugar Ray Robinson, a welter and middleweight. Currently the best fighters in the world can be found from 126 (Featherweight) to 175 (Light Heavyweight). The current Heavyweight picture is a joke.
Earth

I agree. So what are we still arguing for ? ;)

That same line of thinking could be used by numerous people in every war.
