I def love both.. Vont was in position tonight but Steve smith is great at those. Teams dont pick on smith deep much, tried once but really smith was right behind in covg. I trust them over our safteys.. We need a true play making saftey! Maybe one of the studs in the draft??

All we need now is a SS and our dbs will be in place

Smith needs to stop tackling like Deion Sanders, other than that, I like them.

He made a nice play running down Williams. Have not seen that speed from him this season until that play.

He also missed a huge tackle late in the game on Williams, the one where he danced around and got a huge gain. That was Smith tackling like a little girl, again. Vontae is 10x the tackler he is. So many called Smith the better corner in the spring and summer, but didnt realize that coverage skills were all you see that early in training camp with no hitting. Once the pads came on, it was easy to see why V.Davis is a 1st rounder, he will come up and knock the snot out of someone. Good tackling corners are very rare in todays NFL, and thats why Rod Woodson was better than anyone.

No doubt Vontae is a huge hitter. I suspect Bell will be sitting next season and either Wilson moves over or Clemens assumes the role as starter. Both of them are big hitters as well.

Going over tape Vontae hasn't lost any battles with wrs except Moss.. and he only took that match because of the stiff arm. If vontae had tackled him there he wouldve won all his matchups against opposing wrs that's rare for a rookie cb. Smith is just biting way too much.. he's trying to get that pick 6, that's just discipline something he will learn..

Tae is a beast. I love this kid!!! When he got in Steve Smith's face I was just thinking about the fact that this kid is gonna be a pro bowler for years to come. He's fast, has great hi fluidity for a guy his size, obviously he can tackle, but what really gets me is his ability to break on the ball. There was a play where he tackled Mush on a curl and he was one step away from a pick six.

It's weird because Sean Smith looked to be the better of the two in pre-season but he seems to have fallen a little behind Tae. His problem is simple though. He doesn't get a good jam and that should be his greatest asset with his length. Once he starts getting physical he's going to be an all pro as well.

Man these guys are good!!!

I love both our corners. The only real problem I have with Smith is that he's just too tall to be effective at guarding slants and other inside routes. He doesn't seem to have the agility to do so. Other than that, I love what our CB's have accomplished so far. And let's not forget to mention Nate Jones. Boy has he stepped up since Allen went down.

Vontae and Smith are going to be special, and they're already earning a lot of respect.

I loved how Vontae got up in Steve Smith's face a couple times. That's what you want from your CBs.

I don't think he 'owned' him. I think he did a great job on one of the best receivers in the league. He had pretty decent position on him on the TD throw. He turned, looked for the ball, and then got out of position...Smith just made a great catch.

Nate Jones has stepped him game up big time.
The 2 rookies are going to be good no question,

I totally agree with that and is why I question why Davis was stuck on Moss against NE when Smith would defend the deep ball far better than in-routes.

I agree with Davis being on Smith, as smaller more agile WR's seem to give Smith problems and he matched up well against a physical WR like Steve Smith.

steve smith owned vontae today just like moss did 2 weeks ago.
because every time moss "owns" a cb he tells the guy how good he's going to be and to keep working.

vontae is a shutdown cb in the making, and smith should be just a notch below. the trifecta solved our cornerback issues with 2 selections, one of the tougher positions to "get right"

Depends on how you define "owned". You lack a sense of perspective.I guess you expect a young CB to hold a pro bowl WR to 2 ctaches for 10yds.

Everyone with half an ounce of football knowledge knows that guys like Steve Smith are going to step it up in big games like last night.
Vontae held him to under 100 yds receiving and gave up a TD catch in which Smith made a great adjustment to the ball.
On the balance, Vontae did a fantastic job of limiting Smith to an average game.
