I always like Romero but I think he gets cut in a move to try and keep both Vickerson and Wright on the roster.
Zgonina is a bit of a questionmark to me.....I, as well as most people and likely the coaches, believe he currently is a better player than Romero, Vickerson, Wright, Shaw, Rhodes, and possibly even Holliday (because of injuries he hasn't practiced or played as much). But because he's truly on his last legs as far as how much longer he'll play in the NFL he might get cut if he's not traded. I believe Zgonina makes the roster because of the possiblity that Chester isn't ready to go early and his vet leadership will be needed but the team will try everything it can to trade him before the season starts. He's another one of those possible "suprise" cuts if Saban says screw it and goes heavily youth.
Another possiblity is that either to start the season or when Chester is ready that Vickerson is cut and signed to the practice squad. The only reason I say this is because there's no way Wright makes it through waivers without being claimed yet it's possible (although maybe not likely) that Vickerson makes it thru waivers. Shaw is likely the same way.....
...Anywho....while my guess for guys kept for the 53 man roster will not be the "best" as far as current ablity goes, I'm going to guess that DT is the one position that Saban will side with youth and the fact that Holliday and Carter will both play DT a lot:
Vickerson
Wright
Chester (I think he'll be ready to go game 1 even though it might be better if he was PUPed)
Traylor
either Shaw or Rhodes
I think we'll only keep 5 "only" DTs with one of the others, Shaw, Rhodes, Romero (if eligable) for the practice squad. Although now that we can keep 8 on the PS then maybe 2 make it. Remeber, I'm saying 5 because Carter and Holliday also will play DT (another thing might be that we only keep 4 true DTs and keep 5 DE\DT combo guys but we'll have to see about that...if we did I think it will be Chester, Traylor, Wright, Vickerson with Shaw and Rhodes on the PS...actually the more I think about it the more this may be what happens.)
Again, although I think Zgonina deserves a spot I think the team will trade him for a 6th or cut him to go with the younger guys. Traylor and Chester will be the only "old" guys at DT I feel.
Anyway, it's going to be interesting whatever way we go. I hope that Zgonina makes it but he could certainly be one of those "suprises" we all think will be coming.
