I was thinking about our defense and was wondering who teams will have to game plan for? Loosing Zach and Jason at the same time was not the smartest of moves. Jason always commanded 2 blockers making our pass rush potent. Also who is going to make up for Zach's 100+ tackles every season and his being able to read plays and make adjustments. I like crowder but he is no Zach. We really have no defensive leaders besides Porter and he isnt what he used to be. I have a bad feeling that this is going to be a long season for our defense. Hopefully not as long as last year. What do you guys think?

In my opinion, qb's will have to think twice about throwing deep with Jason Allen and Bell in coverage. I think Allen will pick up safety pretty quickly and qb's are going to have to respect.

*edit F man I meant Bell not Surtain

Did I miss something? When did we sign Surtain?

I think the lack of a pass rush is going to hurt our secondery big time. They were horrible last year and we havent done anything to make them better. For the first time since the Marino days I think our offene might be better than our defense. I stress might.

Good question, the more I think about our D the more I get worried with or without JT. I am excited about the young guys tho

Joey Porter.

People say he regressed, but the fact is, we played a 4-3 last year. He has been VERY successful as the primary pass rush threat in a 3-4 defense.

people think he is a waste and was so quick to dump him, if anyone realized he was one of the bright spots at the end of the season last year. He adapted to a poor scheme and wound up producing anyway. He is a great pass rusher and good tackler. He will have a good/great season this year more so than last.

i think gameplanning should be done for porter and Bell and Allen should pull off some great games.

jason allen will be the target of every offense this season.. and for good reason...

i'm going with Joey. if he can come up and step in as our vet leader, we'll be great on D. with him blitzing simultaneously with a possible channing crowder, Tom Brady is screwed again. I think we need to get a trade for a solid CB, but oh well.

New stars will emerge they always do!

I'll also add Yeremiah Bell. If healthy, he could be a huge "pickup" (since he missed all of last year).

He was a true playmaker in Saban's 3-4 playing the 'star' position.
