Exactly. Just watch him on the all-22 if you want to see a useless 2 WR in this offense.
This is pretty much how I feel about it with my eyeballs. On a whim, I decided to see what Football Outsiders had to say about it.
Here are how our key offensive skill players stack up from an analytical perspective, compared to other NFL players with enough plays to be considered gradable starters:
Ryan Tannehill: #11 in DYAR, #13 in DVOA (out of 40)
Lamar Miller: #4 in DYAR, #4 in DVOA (out of 32)
Charles Clay: #35 in DYAR, #31 in DVOA (out of 41)
Jarvis Landry: #25 in DYAR, #23 in DVOA (out of 72)
Mike Wallace: #31 in DYAR, #32 in DVOA (out of 72)
...
Brian Hartline: #48 in DYAR, #45 in DVOA (out of 72)
Of all of our gradable starters at the skill positions, two of them are playing below replacement level: Charles Clay and Brian Hartline. In this case, I don't think the numbers are misleading. Hartline and Clay have both really struggled to contribute in this offense. My guess is they are
both gone next year.
Disclaimer this does not mean that Lamar Miller is an elite RB or that Charles Clay is a terrible tight end. What this means is that Lamar Miller is a good fit and very productive in our offense, while Charles Clay is a bad fit and not at all productive in our offense. In the case of Hartline, he's clearly a bad fit, but that's for reasons that seem obvious to me: Hartline is not a hands catcher in traffic and is terrible at getting yards upfield after the catch most of the time.
