Who would have thought: Hadnot over Carey

Hadnot fell down the draft boards because of his less than ideal height, only 6'-2" as listed last year in the media guide, and his level of competition, C-USA. Then again we got an all-pro MLB because of similar concerns name of Zack Thomas a few years back. Hadnot has a way to go before being counted in that company but things like that do happen.

Rewind to April 20th of 2004 right before the draft. who did u want the Phins to draft? Most dolfans, including myself, wanted a 1st-round O-lineman, Vernon Carey being near the top of the wishlist for many.

Now, after a full season, with no injuries, Vernon Carey may still fail to be a penciled in starter. and at the same time, 6th rounder Rex Hadnot is the penciled-in starter at RG, the position where many thought Carey would end up at. and Hadnot already has more NFL gameplaying experience than Carey going into year 2.

How crazy would u have thought a guy was who told u Hadnot would straight up outperform Carey even with Carey not letting his weight get out of control. How crazy would u have thought a guy was who had Hadnot ahead of Carey on the draft board? it just goes to show how much of a crapshoot the draft can be.

(BTW i know that Carey may still very well end up being our starting LT, but from what I've read, combined with the fact that Hadnot played more than Carey as rookies when both were healthy, is enough evidence to say Hadnot at least at this stage is better than Carey.)
I knew Hadnot was good but I didnt think he would be better than our first round pick...then again it was wanny and speilman who picked him

I'm surprised none of u guys put DT up there as the most important. IMO, a good defense is more mportant than a good offense, and the play of the DT position has the most power in dictating how well the defense does. The way I look at it, of all the positions on defense, a DT has the most power to singlehandedly stop the offense, hence making it the most important.

my list of most important positions would go:
  1. DT
  2. LT
  3. MLB
  4. RE
  5. CB
  6. RT
  7. RG
  8. skill positions (QB, WR, etc.)
My Marino2Clayton is brilliant - should never be second-guessed!

You've managed to criticize and support Spielman in one breath ...

Did you mean to positively insult or negatively compliment him? :goof:

j/k

Apparently Rick Spielman wouldn't have thought it.

I wanted Vince Wilfork.

I think Carey got screwed by the square peg-round hole mentality of Wanny and crew... They had him penciled in as Wades replacement at RT (round hole) and as is typical they went with the safe-bet at all the OL positions and not the guys with the higher upside...Hadnot should have been starting over whilty (sp haha not) from the get-go and they should have let Carey get some game time last year but they where trying to squease out 8 wins and keep their jobs...This year if things are close in competition like Carey/Mcintosh I think Nick will go with the higher upside (Carey) and let them develope.. as it should be.

When Carey was drafted, we knew he was dumb as a rock...it'll take him time to develop...Also, last year, from an OL perspective, was a real aberration. Let's see how Carey develops...Hadnot's performance last year has to be tempered based on how poorly the rest of the OL played..afterall, arguably our best performer last year was St. Clair and even tho it's only June, the word is that he probably won't even crack the lineup this year...Time will have to tell us...we'll have a much better idea about this OL when training camp is in full swing...
