Who would you pick with the number 9 pick if the Fab 5, Levi Brown and Laron Landry were all gone by the time we pick at 9 (a good possibility) and we're unable to trade down?

The top rated players remaining would probably be Okoye, Branch, Willis, Ginn Jr, Nelson, Revis and/or Houston. My choices would be:
1. Willis (our linebacker depth sucks)
2. Ginn Jr if Healthy.
3. Nelson: we need playmakers and game changers on defense
4. Revis: he could start or be a nickel or dime back (never can have too many good CBs)
5. Houston: he could start or be a nickel or dime back (never can have too many good CBs)
6. Okoye: we currently have some potential good to very good DLmen
7. Branch: same as 6, plus he is slipping due to questions about work ethic

None of them sound bad at all. Everyone of them would fit a need to some degree, besides maybe the d-line. I would like to see what r wright, m wright, and f evans can bring with a little more playing time. I don't want ginn that high. I heard branch was out of shape at his pro day. If that is true i don't want someone who cant even show up to solidify himself as a top 10 pick due to being lazy. Then, i have to wonder how he wld do in the heat and humidity in the 2nd half of games. So, I would probably take willis @ # 9. If we cld trade down than i would re-consider all of them.

so who is this fab 5 you speak of because as far as i am concerned it is (in no real order besides the dramatic effect at the end lol) Calvin Johnson, Jamarcus Russell, Joe Thomas, Adrian Peterson, and LARON LANDRY. and then if patrick willis and gaines adams were gone who would i choose if we couldnt trade down?

Branch - if we are going to run a 3-4 we need someone for next year

Ginn - Slowly warming to him, sssslllllllllloooooooowwwwwwwwwwlllllllllyyyyy

Okoye - Anyone that can be a team leader, command the respect of his piers as being one at his age, and has this much up side, its worth the shot

Olsen - We have 'one' tight end that has a history of not playing due to injury, we need this guy.

Carriker - I hate the cornhuskers, but have you seen this guy play. no really have u?

Anderson - Might be BPA here could be too good to pass up

Staley - yes a 'reach' but you said i cant trade down so i am living within your rules. kids got something, nothing more to be said

notable draft 'busts left out' quinn, hall, levi brown

Good post, because this could be what happens. I think Willis is BPA at that point. However, this offense will mirror KC and SD offense so do not overlook Greg Olsen at #9. He is a "franchise" tight end that Cam would undoubtedly value and offers the speed Mueller looks for. Although I prefer Ginn as I think he is "reggie bush explosive" I'm not sure that fits our scheme. If it falls this way look for...

Willis, Ginn, Olsen or Staley, IMHO.

Of the choices you have listed ... the answer would be Willis or move down ... and preferebly move down.

The only one on your list I would consider, and it pains me to say this, is Ginn. I don't like him, and I don't want us to pick him, but I don't think we can draft defense in the first round. Personally, I'd pick Staley.
