Whos happy with our new coach joe philbin?

Not happy, but I am a Fin fan first and foremost. Firing one o line coach for another does not make sense. It seems like everyone that wanted Philbin also wants Flynn - because he showed so much in his 2 starts?

For those who hate Ireland, I hate to tell you, if all those reports are right that he wanted McCoy, if Philbin fails it's not on Ireland, it's on Ross. In other words, be careful what you wish for because Ireland has another excuse in case Philbin does not work.
this is by far the best post of the day!!! Thx

He wasn't my first choice, but I think he's a reasonable hire and I really hope that he's the guy.

I also sincerely hope that he's part of a plan to bring down Matt Flynn and that Philbin/the front office strongly feel that Flynn is the guy. We need to solve this QB situation badly.

I'm happy because we're putting to bed at long last the 3yds and a cloud of polluted smoke philosophy. Enough was too much. Welcome to post 2004 QB-friendly regs.Still would have preferred Billick or Zimmer.
I totally agree about the offensive philosophy. The league had changed and passing rules.

I especially like the possibility of Philbin bringing Clements from GB as OC. Who know though they may retain Daboll.

This makes me very very nervous. Ok, you have an OC who didn't call the plays on his team who is now a first time HC. He then in turns hires the QB coach from his old team to be a first time OC? Too much green for my liking. Then you throw in the fact that they may promote Bowles to DC and sign Flynn. 1st year HC, OC, DC and full time starting QB. I don't see how you guys are comfortable with this going into next season. I know Green Bay put up great numbers and we went to raid their organization hoping to steal some of their magic, but it just doesn't work that way, and I can't think of a single instance where it did. I'll hope for the best nonetheless. God I hope this works out for the best...

except finheaven loves the hire. . . but hey ton was "JUST A DUMB OLINE COACH"

but this guy is great "BC HE WILL BRING IN MAT FLYNN"

so idk. all the same i hope the old baldy does ok, dont see it but ill get used to it, and prob used to finheaven hating him soon enough.

Ill give him a chance first to earn my trust before I choose whether or not to hate or like him.

I like the prospect of Clements more for the fact he has proven he can develop a QB not his experience as an OC.

Would you rather keep Daboll as OC? I'm not saying I am right on this one and I agree there is a great deal of risk, but at this point I think we need to take some risks instead of making the safe hire ex. Daboll.

What's the worse that could happen? We fail to make the playoffs for a 4th straight season? Whoopty ****ing doo.

The longer it dragged out, my instinct was it favored Philbin. If they had a conviction on McCoy last night, per rumors, he would have been named early today. Once I heard this afternoon that McCoy had flown back to Denver, signs pointed to Philbin.

Sharp guy but it's natural to be a bit annoyed when your top choice(s) didn't get the nod. Kind of like politics when your party wins but not the person you supported in the primaries. Come to think of it, that happened last time.

I think Philbin was a safer pick but McCoy had more upside. As a gambler I prefer the boom or bust risk with the younger guy.

There's no way I'm going to be giddy and set aside my concerns about lack of emphasis on the running game. Green Bay ran the ball 10 times in last year's Super Bowl and barely moved beyond the low 20s in the vast majority of games this season. Last year they were considerably more balanced during the regular season, and had plenty of rushes against Atlanta and Chicago in the playoffs, so Pittsburgh had to respect the running game in the Super Bowl. Last week it looked like the Giants weren't concerned at all.

If we had a Rodgers caliber quarterback, or anything in the next tier down, number of rushes wouldn't be a major fret. But as I posted last night the greatest danger of all is a cupcake finesse coach who thinks he can line up in empty sets and wing the ball 40+ times with a mediocre or worse quarterback.

I'd be more upbeat if Philbin were a lively speaker, like the Dolphins brass I grew up with. Joe Thomas was an eccentric egotistical howl who loved the media spotlight. Bobby Beathard had the boyish charm and grin. George Young was like an ultra sharp professor who occasionally peered above his reading glasses with brief words carrying a ton of weight and wisdom. Shula could stare you down with his jaw alone. These days we've got arrogant-without-reason Jeff Ireland, a goofy Steve Forbes type at owner, and now a soft spoken reserved cliche prone head coach.

It's so unlikely to break through and win a title I prefer entertainment along the way.
