Thats not the question though. I think the honor should go to X. Been our best defensive player THIS year. Wake and Reshad may have history on their side, but howard is just playing great

I misread the question. Cam wake has had the best career so far so I picked him. Our best defender however is Howard at this point right now, no question.

Howard then Quinn.
Have to give the edge to guy producing the key turnovers.
Overall I prefer Quinn. I think Howard will struggle and is not as good as current impressions allow.

Xavien Howard hands down our MVP through three games and six last season, elite level play.
Per PFF Since week 12 of last season (9 games) Xavien Howard has allowed just 13 receptions on 43 targets (32%), 0 touchdowns & picked off 7 passes.

I never realized how tough this would be..... I just can’t say. X, Reshad, or Quinn.... with no disrespect intended to my favorite (Wake).

Based on the body of work and the importance of his position, Cam Wake.
Reshad Jones might be a better SS than Wake is a DE but I don't consider a SS as important. Still he deserves honorable mention.
Xavien Howard is currently playing like the best defender on the roster. Still he has to win the "test of time" to earn the "best" title.
Minkah Fitzpatrick has shown enough as a rookie to make one think he could be in the running for the best Dolphin of all time. Given some of the players in our long team history that is saying something.
Nice to have a few options.

Hard to say that makes him the "best" as much as it is indicative of lack of depth at CB. Same could be said for Kiko but he is not the same caliber game changing player by any means.

Wake is not slowing down lol don’t look at the stats next time we play just watch him. He continues to get held on every play and creates constant pressure. Most of our picks have come from pressure caused by him.

While I do somewhat agree with you, he does seem to have lost a fraction of a step. Still a beast, but a fraction of a step back from the beast I've seen before. Quinn's presence might be providing that perception though.

Howard is playing lights out right now. He's showing elite coverage skills, ball skills and is good against the run. If I absolutely had to pick one, Id go with him.
However, Jones' big plays in the first two games, and history of consistently producing them, have to be discussed.
Quinn is providing exactly what we need in a DE across from Wake. His play has been huge.
Wake is Wake...not taking over games like he has but you gotta have his pressure. Even if he's not there, he's in the offense's game plan, and probably in the QB's head/internal clock
Alonso is having his best year as a Phin. Hands down. Making flash plays like he did in '16 and not missing tackles, getting killed in coverage (as much) as he did in '17.
Glad we have them all. Throw in young talent with our DTs, Fitz, Baker...we could have a playoff caliber D for a while if things break right.
