Brown isn't known to be a burner and could never really break the "big one".. does anyone know how Thomas compares in the speed department.. I've read Thomas isn't necessarily fast but is he atleast faster/quicker than Brown?

Disclaimer: This seems REALLY stupid as my source, trust me I know but is it that big of a disparity when it comes to speed between Brown and Thomas...
The Madden '12 ratings came out for the Dolphins today and Ronnie's speed is 91 which seems kinda high and Thomas's speed is 83 which seems extremely slow for a running back...

I would guess Thomas is without ever seeing him run. If you asked me who was faster in full pads between Ronnie and my next door neighbor who is a 60+ year old Philapino, I would guess my neighbor. Between Ronnie and that lineman who returned the KO for the Pats last season, Im betting on the lineman. etc......

thomas ran a 4.62 so he ain't exactly a burner. brown is faster even after his injuries - he ran a 4.43.

at least we didn't give up 3rd and 5th round picks to get him. pfffffffffffffffffffft.

You could tie Sparano to Ronnie's waist and he'll still outrun Daniel Thomas... I'm telling you, Ronnie has broken more tackles, and put more defenders flat on their back in a single game than Daniel Thomas will in a season... you'll see.

Ill compare their combine results. Obviously Ronnie's results arent accurate to him now but its still a side by side comparison. Kinda.

D. Thomas
40 yard dash - 4.62
10 yard dash - 1.54
20 yard shuffle - 4.29
3 Cone - 7.06

R. Brown
40 yard dash - 4.43
10 yard dash - 1.54
20 yard shuffle - 4.08
3 Cone - 7.10

Dont know if this helps but its something.

Obviously Browns 4.43 in at the combine doesn't mean jack. He hesistates to hit the hole, and when he does, can't finish even when breaking it.

I like Thomas' ability to hit the whole and cut quickly UPFIELD as being his advantage to ronnie. Most of the time its not those break away chances, but that minimal space you have to work with. I think Thomas can make better use of that than Ronnie because of his quicker feet and vision. Guess we will see though.

well looking at the numbers... DT is every bit as fast as Ronnie for the first 10 yards. Also in the 3 cone he was just as agil. so I guess we'll find out if the kid hits the hole and what kinda vision does he have? ronnie had piss poor vision.

Thomas is one of the slowest backs you will ever see, just watch.

Jacobs type of slow

Here is a video of him against Nebraska: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOFL3FwAhpg

He seems to have decent speed, but Bush is going to make him look like he is standing still.
He looks pretty good catching a pass as well, so Checkdown Chad's zingers shouldn't be a total adventure.
I'm just hoping we aren't going to miss Ronnie's ability to run over/through people at times.

He's slow. He always gets caught from behind.

He gives defenders way too much to hit (midsection) because he hasn't learned to run behind his pads yet.. he runs under 'em.

Although I don't know what Tony Sparano is talking about when he says Daniel Thomas didn't pass protect much in college. I have plenty of film on Thomas where he's excellent in pass protection, just like the play at :38 seconds into that video.

All running backs coming out of college need work on their blitz pick-ups and pass protection, but Thomas was one of the best in that aspect out of all the backs I studied in the draft.... some of them I'd even say have no shot in the NFL.

The main thing a back has to learn in his pass protection is to protect from the inside out, which is exactly what Thomas did there when he stoned the blitzer (Lavonte David)... he just needs some fine tuning.

Thomas stood way too high there, which is why you saw him lose his balance and his foot come up off the ground... you don't want to see that. Thomas has to learn to get lower and block with a better base... he's going to have to sustain those blocks in the NFL, and you can't do it if you're off balance.

Bro forget Ronnie, Ricky at his age now is faster than Thomas. Not taking anything away from Thomas he is a great Runner but just not incredibly fast.
