Now that we have Culpepper I'm wondering who the backup is going to be. With Daunte rehabbing hopefully he will be ready to go by the first week, but just in case he isn't I think we have to go with an experienced backup going into the season.

Who do you think it could be? Dioes Gus stay on? I doubt he will. Who do we get as backup?

Gus will be the backup, unless he gets pissy and says he can't be # 2

Im super happy with Gus as the back up. Even if Daunte doesnt start until after the middle of the year Gus will be ok.

This is a serious question. Im listening to 790 the ticket and ive just read Espn site and the word on Dauntes injury which is 3 ripped ligaments that takes 12mths to fully heal. They are saying that he is ahead of schedule and they are saying he MAY be back for September. More likely October then im guessing. ESPN report also says that because we have got Culpepper we will now release Gus to free up salary cap space. Am i the only one that sees a problem on the horizon? Weve got Lemon and thats it!?!? and thats if we release Gus. I think Culpeppers injury may be the saving grace for Gus and him being here next season. Im just hoping Dante will be fit for start of the season and we dont have to worry but its an issue.

i didnt realize duante wouldnt be able to even practice until the season starts. i say we bring in josh mccown, gus wont take a paycut to keep duante's seat warm.

I hope Gus stays, but does he really wanna play #2 fiddle at this point? Im thinking he might not. Plus we pay him an awful lot to be a backup.

How long is Culpepper signed for?

Daunte claimed earlier that he would be more than willing to re-structure his contract, to be salary cap friendly. thus allowing the 'Fins to get other FA's. One move I'd like to see, is the fact that we probably still get Schaub at a good price. With some of the $$$ we saved, we can pay Schaub more money than he's currently making in Atlanta, and have a solid back-up to boot. I also still wouldn't be disappointed to retain Frerotte's services if he is willing. This playing around with Brees the last couple of days also cost us one of the best C's in Mawae. THAT ROYALLY SUCKS!!! Along with other moves that we could've made, had we went ahead with Culp. I hope Culp's physical goes well. For those that don't remember, most critics said that after Jamal shredded his knee, that he'd never be the same again either. He's only gone on to be one of the best backs in the league afterwards. Now...GET BUSY...Adams,Ashworth,Law,Allen, LETS GO!!!

I cannot see us cutting Gus now. But...
Tommy Maddox, Aaron Brooks, Jeff Garcia now that the Lions have Kitna, Kelley Holcum to name a few.
