This has probably been talked about a lot here, but I wanted some other peoples thoughts on this.
I hate the fact that the fins always end up playing in frigid conditions at the end of the season and losing games. I know that there are great rivalries in the AFC East, but come on...New England, Buffalo, New York...and Miami.
Why can't they move us to the AFC South with Jacksonville, Tennessee and Texas? Then they could just move Indy to AFC North to play the Browns, Bengals, and Ravens. Then Pittsburgh would be shipped to AFC East, then everyone would be playing people in their area. I like the rivalry with the Jets and Bills and Pats, but its kinda ridiculous..
Thoughts?

Maybe the NFL just doesn't like us...
I have no idea but that proposition sounds good. I would still love to hate the Pats and cherish the night we beat them on MNF even if we moved out of the division:)

cause of the established rivalries. Im not sure theres anyone they could move. Theyd never move pitt b/c of their rivalry with cleveland and jacksonville is so neutral its like blah who cares?

The Colts used to be in here too. Seattle, St Louis, Arizona and San Fran are all in together. I don't think it's always hinging on geography.

*shrugs*

Yeah, We are pretty far east though. I would rather stay in our current division. The rivalries are more important than location.

Atlanta and San Fran use to be in the same division...you also had the Seattle Seahawks once in the AFC West...things make much more sense now. I also think that when the AFC East was refigured it made the most sense to move the Indianapolis Colts out and to keep the Bills, Jets, and Patsies with Miami due to the big rivalries.

The Bills/Dolphins games are classics and the league loves them. Colts never established a great rivalry with any of the East teams, so that is why they overlooked location when realigning the league.

It's the rivalries, same reason the Cowboys are in the NFC East, their rivalries with the Eagles, Redskins, and Giants.

Rivalries is the answer. I know RW was completely against letting the Fins or Buffalo out of the East. Maybe he still has sour grapes from the 70's who knows. Personally I wanted Buffalo in the AFC North because all the games would be nearby and I could visit the oppenents stadium for sh*ts and giggles if I felt like it :D

Also, I think Miami should have definitely been moved to the South. They laready has an established rivalry w/Indy and there's no reason why one could not have started w/Jacksonville......especially after that horrible playoff lose.

bill's/dolphins and jets/dolphins would be weird to live without. It was ok to take the colts out cause they didn't rival with anyone.

Like everyone else said it's because of rivalries. But your proposed realignment plan sounds good.

Every few months, someone comes along with the horrible idea of moving the Dolphins out of the AFC East and into the AFC South. I can tell you right now, my god that would suck. I can't imagine a season where we're not kicking the Patriots, Jets, and Bills asses twice. Think of what's in the South... Texans, Colts, Titans, Jaguars. How f'ing dull would those games be to watch? Colts would be the only interesting one, and only because they used to be in the AFC East and we could watch Manning for a few hours.

Regardless, moving the Dolphins anywhere would make each NFL season considerably less anticipated by me, I thrive on the rivalries with the other teams in the division... You can't just take a crap on history like that.
