Why Are Out Of Towners Still Dolphans?

Why? Because I don't believe in "switching teams" just because they suck. I grew up watching the Dolphins and the Falcons and I'll die watching the Dolphins and the Falcons. I'm die-hard Dolphins and root for the Falcons in the NFC. If they play each other, I'm rooting for the Dolphins every day of the week. That'll never change.

I have lived my whole life in jersey but my dad was a fins fan so I grew up rooting for them.I'm just a loyal guy I guess.

Giants are my second team though, used to go to games with my grandpa when I was a kid and I usually root for a fins giants Superbowl to happen...with the fins winning of course.

fan since 1971. i've tried to switch off and on the last few years but it doesn't take. i'd rather be a packers fan but i'm stuck with these muppets, i guess as long as they have a dolphin on their helmet.

I grew up an hour or so outside of Los Angeles and there were no sports fans in my family (unless you count NASCAR ... and I don't). I was really into baseball and grew up an Angels fan because back then they were the California Angels and, being somewhat of a literalist at age 6/7, figured rooting for the Dodgers would be weird because I didn't live in Los Angeles. Because I didn't identify with the LA teams, I had no real football team that made sense based on geography and leading up to the San Fran vs. Miami super bowl (which, because of the lack of sports fans was the first real football game that entered my consciousness through friends) everyone was rooting for San Fran and I tend to root for the underdogs, so me and like 2 other people in my school rooted for the Dolphins. They didn't win but I had publicly professed my loyalty and could not go back. Sometime after that I recall seeing a documentary on TV about the '72 Dolphins undefeated season and that just further cemented what a good choice in NFL teams I had made.

Honestly, I pull for the Panthers since Im right here in Charlotte. I have a few TShirts and go to games when I get free tickets. Im not a fan(atic) though. Im a fanatic for the team I was born into this world to love. There was a dolphins football in my incubator in Jackson Memorial after I was born. The Dan Marino jerseys came soon after. This was a team that was big into the community in the 80s and that many of my family members felt personal connections to. So why do I love them now even though I left South Florida in 86? Perhaps they are my connection to my roots? Perhaps I just love mammals that swim really well. Probably though I could never imagine really pulling for another team just as a parent couldnt just trade in their kid for another.

Live in upstate NY...plain and simple, Dan Marino is the reason I am a Dolphins fan today. I had the privilege of watching Miami games whenever they played the Bills, Jets or Pats and any other prime time game...It's been a tough few years. I am hoping we can become an elite team again. I would love to witness one Super Bowl victory in my lifetime.

I think it's a valid question. What does his age have to do with it?

It seems like a childish question, how do you not understand how someone stays faithful to a team? I really don't see how it is a valid question, people who are real fans will still support the team even when they move away from the area.

You pick your team and stick with them. I have lived all 47 years of my life in Ohio and have been a Fin Fan since I was 5 years old (thanks Dad!). I could never support another team.

My dad liked the Dolphins (he doesn't remember why, but probably because of 1972) even though he grew up in New York, thus I liked them growing up (plus I thought Dan Marino was the coolest guy ever). Also, I hate the Eagles. Penn State is the only PA team I root for, though it helps that it is my alma mater.
