This is only his second year with a mediocre team which wannstedt screwed for him, I think hes done a good job with what hes got, Yes i know we're losing and this and that but dayum what do u expect for what hes got to work with? Whoever thought this team was going to be a superbowl contender this year was in a dreamland. I think we're on our way to great things give the guy time, thats why he signed a 5 year contract deal. You cant turn a junk team into a GREAT team in 2 seasons.:rolleyes2

People are tired of losing. This is the second losing season in three years and I do believe the 5th straight season out of the playoffs. If it were Shula and this were '79 (AKA soon after the two SB wins), they'd be acting the same way. I don't condone the behavior, but I also don't try to act like Saban is the second coming. The truth is that he has screwed up this year. My money is on him learning his lessons and coming back stronger.

Yeah I agree, some of his drafting was kinda suspect and such maybe next year will be better.

in many ways this is his team. the roster turnover since he took over has been tremendous, so many of these players are the ones he picked, players that are not performing nearly as well as he expected (and I hoped!)

I'm still a believer though, I think even though our record is the same (or nearly the same) as 2004, this team has a much different feel and I could see them winning if they stop making stupid mental mistakes. The 2004 team was just overmatched, and them winning any game was a major achievement. I think we could win some more games this year. I'm actually excited about the upcoming games against the Bears, Colts, Jaguars and Patriots. I really think we'll see something we didn't know was there out of these guys. Maybe it just takes a competitive jolt to get the juices running

The players he gets. Example, I remember almost everyone in finheaven wanted Brees but he decided to get Culpepper. There were some pretty good O LINe free agents during the offseason, but we never got one. Also, Schulters is way better than Hill,Tillman and Allen of course.

I think Saban is looking more toward the long term building of the team beyond this year. Shulters is 30 i think and Saban wants a young defensive backfield to build his defense upon. Say what you will but the secondary is going to get better and have already gotten better since the first week.

yeah, I know. We've got to stay positive. There is absolutely nothing to be pissed at Saban for. Its Mularkey, not Saban. And the oline, and the Dbacks..but its not Saban. Its Sammy Morris, LJ Shetlon, Eddie Jackson, and the hurt QB...its not Saban.

I don't know why people expect Saban to better this year than last. This is a crazy notion. Alot of coaches get worse in the second year...Wannstedt, Norv Turner, Rich Kotite, Marty Mohrninweg....there is plenty of examples. Did any of those teams want their coaches fired? No. Because those teams have POSITIVE fans. The Lions knew it was going to take Mohrninweg time to get it turned around. And the Eagles knew Kotite needed a couple of more drafts to get HIS players in the system. They were TRUE fans.

Not like the whiners on this team. There are a few problems on the Dolphins, granted, (blocking, tackling, running, catching, throwing, penalties) but none of it is Saban's fault.

Very good thread. Way to be POSITIVE.

I actually laughed out loud this time.Wannstedt is STILL getting blamed for every move Saban makes. Its just comical now that NO ONE can say ANYTHING negative about the lord almighty Saban without someone bringing up Wannstedts name.Wannstedt came here with a bad reputation and the fans bought into the negatives. Saban came here in high regard due to his college success and people refuse to knock him off his pedastal. What has Saban done in his one and a half years that Wannstedt didnt do? NOTHING,thats what! But still people choose to feed Wannstedt to the wolves while they fan Saban with palm leaves and hand feed him grapes.

It did take Saban 4 years to win the national Title at LSU.

Wannstedt must have been out of town that last year.

Must be if he drafted a Saftey to sit and learn a system:lol:

While these may be many of the players Saban has picked, it has often been the choice between a mediocre player or some other mediocre player. Great players just don't become available in this league, so Saban is trying to follow in the Belichek footsteps and find veterans to execute and play the system to cover up their weaknesses or lack of true talent.

That being said I feel our losses are a combination of being outcoached and our players not executing efficiently.

Saban has made a few mistakes this year but I'm confident that he has what it takes to make it as one of our great coaches. It's pretty humorous how people flip flop opinions so much though. Last year everyone was in love with Saban after turning that disaster of a team into something worth watching, and now? How quickly we forget sometimes.

Why do people abuse Wannstedt so much when he had a 42-30 regular season coaching record with Miami and lay off Saban's (so far) 10-12? Do people generally reckon Saban is going to coach Miami to a better than 32-18 record over his next fifty games? If he doesn't he'll be behind Wannstedt in terms of regular season win percentage at that point. Of course, I hope Saban wins every game he coaches for Miami but I've got to say he's the public face of the organisational side of the team and currently deserves as much questioning as anyone coaching a 1-5 team.
