...And yet are willing to sell the farm to get a completely unproven nfl rookie quarterback? I know there are distinct differences like the fact Matt flynn is a 7th round pick but when analysising say RGIII against Flynn, you have to see that flynn actually has 2 more starts, and has been impressive in both.. You have absoloutely no idea how RGIII will transition into the nfl, and thats why I believe signing matt flynn is actually a lot less risky..
Then you have the argument that flynn is just a very good system quarterback, but why is this a problem either? Considering the most likely scenario for flynn to come to miami is if philbin is named head coach who will implement that offensive system that flynn has been accustomed to..
Then you've got the comparisons to players like AJ feeley, however once again Flynn is not the same, he's just a free agent that can brought in to at worst compete for the starting job.. Your not risking any future draft picks to pick him up and going back to the previous argument, Flynn is going to be in a system he can excel and be comfortable in.
This combined with the fact that this will allow us to use our draft picks to address other key areas such as a pass rusher opposite wake and bringing in another recieving threat, mean I am very much on the Matt flynn bandwagon..
If he doesn't pan out, you haven't cost your team anything, we aren't going to need to trade away draft picks unless the unlikely occurence of him being franchise tagged takes place, and we'd probably be looking at a mediocre season if he wasn't our quarterback anyway.... If he does pan out, we've got our quarterback of the future, we've addressed key needs in the draft, combined with moves were likely to make in free agency such as carl nicks means that if he does actually pan out, there is no reason this team can't contend a super bowl..
Yes I understand drafting a rookie in the 1st round and picking up a 7th round pick with 2 career stats in free agency aren't the same situation but I was using it to emphasise my arguement because quite honestly, with Barkley declaring, and luck a lock for the number 1 pick, there isn't another qb in this draft im completely sold on, certainly not sold enough to trade future first round picks anyway.. So why not bring in Matt flynn? It could be a disaster but we've been stuck in mediocrity for so long, if it does pan out, I have a firm belief this team can go to a super bowl.
