Why are people so hung up on the fact Matt flynn has only had two career starts?

-Dolphins sign Matt Flynn- "Oh God, AJ Feely 2.0"
-Dolphins sign experienced FA QB- "Oh God Trent Green 2.0"
-Dolphins trade for experienced QB- "Oh God Daunte Culpepper 2.0"
-Dolphins draft a QB in the 2nd round- "Oh God Pat White/John Beck/ Chad Henne 2.0"

We've pretty much run the gamete of possiblities, we need someone who recognizes a really good potential QB and get his butt in here. If our staff thinks Flynn can be great, then bring him in. We've gotten to the point where we can't shy away from candidates based on our past failures.

There ya go, I fixed it for ya!

Maybe we try to draft one in the 1st for a change? I know, crazy idea...

yeah you could use that money on carl nicks and continue to be mediocre with matt moore...

It's my understanding that no NFL contract is written in stone. If Flynn comes and blows he can be cut with a cost of his signing bonus and played for salary. We wouldn't be stuck with anything. If you trade up you give up picks and maybe players. I think a failure by whomever is drafted would be compounded by the costs. So between the two I'd be for Flynn and drafting Richardson, or trading down and getting either Dwayne Allen or DeCastro.

I'm probably wrong, but I'm guessing that we're overvaluing the money Matt Flynn is going to command. The most serious competition for his services is likely to be Seattle, in terms of a team that runs a West Coast offense, needs a QB and has some money to spend. Whether or not we go after Flynn will likely depend less on 2 GAMES, and more on 2 INTERVIEWS -- the Dolphins 2 interviews with Philbin, whether or not they hire him. I can't imagine that even the new "Trifecta" of Ross, Ireland and Peterson could possibly fail to seriously grill Philbin about Flynn and whether he would want to bring him on board. While coaches usually back their players, Philbin would have every incentive to be forthright -- if he gets the job, he doesn't want to be saddled with Flynn if he doesn't have full faith in him. The Dolphins brass should come away from the second interview knowing a lot about Flynn's work habits, preparation, ability to throw every route, strengths, weaknesses, etc.

1 playoff appearance and 0 playoff victories in 10 years. Do you need more evidence?

I have been a fan since 1970 so I know the highs and the lows but moaning and groaning about everything and I mean everything the Dolphins do gets tired and old on this site.

matt flynn probably commands a contract along the lines of kevin kolbs 7 years $63 mil deal but before you guys all go belly up on this realize that if he gets similar guaranteed loot to kolb ($20 mil range) that is no different than what you would be giving any rookie qb under this new cba in the top 5...

no matt flynn is not gonna sign a deal when he has a market where you can get out after the first year for his signing bonus only or anything like that but in the event he comes to you and flops its no different that a rookie draft pick in the top 5 flopping provided you cut him when you can eat his cap hit...

and in the event flynn does come and become a legit qb for you that $63 mil over 7 years will be small fries over the course of the contract...

not to mention you don't have to trade your first round picks in the process to get up there for him and given this new cba you could easily still use your top pick say in 2013 or 2014 on a qb and work it into the cap...

I'm with you IF we hire Philban and he wants to bring him in as HIS starting qb that's all I need to know. Someone who's been working side by side with the guys for a couple years now will know if Flynn is the real deal or not

so is hearing you complain about everyone that moans and groans...goes both ways...i'm nauseus hearing you complain about the complaining...and frankly given our results people should be complaining about whats going on with this franchise...

Basically,

If we take Flynn and he flops we are stuck with a QB for a good 5-6 years for 60-70 mill on the contract (25 guaranteed).

If we take RGIII and he flops stuck with a QB for 4 years at say, 25 mill.

Flynn is now actually the "greater risk, greater reward" QB rather than RGIII.

But yeah..... A.J. Feely anyone?
Did you forget the 3 draft picks it would take to trade up to get RGIII? Two of them being 1st rounders? And his entire salary would be guaranteed.

Something tells me with Philbin's anxiousness to get a HC gig somewhere his plan is to bring in Flynn to be his guy at the QB spot which is why he would take the Dolphins HC spot if offered. If he goes to the Bucs he will have to work with Freeman and get him to learn the WCO.

When you look at it that way Miami would be the prefered spot for Philbin over Tampa Bay. I'm sure the 2nd interview for all these guys will cover coaching staff and roster building (free agent signings). The first interview probably covered X's and O's, coaching philosopy and vision for the team.

I think we should go with Flynn. This would give us the chance to trade back a few spots and draft a guy like Jeffery or wright to add to our receiving core in the first and then draft fleener and a pass rusher in the second.

Wright would be the better fit in the WCO IMO but I don't see Fleener getting much past pick #40. There just aren't enough playmakers in this draft to push him down.

if we get flynn i would love to draft wright. our receiving core will be legit if gates can come in and contribute. Marshall, Wright, Bess, Gates, and Hartline. Then adding a pass catching tight end would be great too. Then you add bush out of the backfield...Flynn would have plenty of targets and options. our offense has the chance to be scary if flynn can get the playmakers the ball.

I used to be the aqua and orange goggles wearing homer, completely trusting in every move that was made regardless of the regime. What gets old to me is the incessant fumbling and bumbling by a once proud franchise that cannot get out of its own way. I'll stop groaning when I have a winner to cheer for, or at least an organization that appears to have a plan.

They will always get my support but I can no longer give these guys my faith.
