It seems like everyone and their mother knows the falcons are going to run the ball. If your that 1 dimensional, like everyone seems to believe, then why are they such a good football team?

If you could just put 8 or 9 in the box and stop Atlanta then why are they winning so much?

Because they have a good O-line and the threat of M. Vick going all the way on every play. Additionally, there Defense is very tough.

Good running teams can run even when you put 8 or 9 in the box. That's what Carolina did on their SB run. Atlanta is a good running team.

It's not that easy. Even though Vick hasn't blossomed into the QB a lot of people have expected him to be, you still have to respect his arm and his ability to get the ball downfield. He also makes defenses respect their lanes and assignments, due to his superb speed. 8 in the box would probably work ok if we were going to shut down Dunn and Duckett, but he's just a different kind of player to defend.

I think we'll see that as time goes on though, teams are going to let him try to run around a little more, since he's made of glass. He'll manage to get himself hurt if he doesn't put the ball downfield, and teams may try to force him to do that.

I guess they have enough of a passing threat to respect with Crumpler, Finneran and White being there best targets...

We're going to blitz in every way possible in my opinion. Pass coverage has to have at least one spy on every play also.

It's a Red Drum. They call 'em redfish in Florida & Carolina. I caught that guy off of the eastern shore of VA. He was 55 lbs....and tasty..haha

Because they stay committed to the running game even against 8 or 9 guys in the box, and even on 3rd and longs!

So, on 3rd and 6 when you are in a passing defense, they'll run dunn at you and he'll pop a 8 yard run.

But what really helps them is Vick's running. Whenever they get in a bad situation and NEED a first down or they need to get something going, Vick will make a awesome run and pick up a ton of yards.

Vick also has a strong arm and at times you need to respect that. He can hit his TE down the middle for long yards. He just has poor accuracy going to the sidelines from within the pocket.

For those reason's they pose a problem for defenses.

their running game is ridiculous. Warrick Dunn is headed for the Pro Bowl this year. Along with their stellar run game, they have the huge threat of Vick making a play scrambling or tossing it downfield to his favorite target in Crumpler. Atlanta is probably the best team in the NFC due to their solid offensive line, consistent catches from their mediocre WR's, and already mentioned run game. If we can limit their run game to 150 yards or less and keep Vick from making huge plays, we'll be in line to win this game.

What I would like to see us do in order to beat the Falcons offense is,

1) Push Vicks OL into him and clog up the passing lanes.
2) Keep Vick inside the pocket, and bring blitzes from the outside, while pushing the middle of his OL into the pocket. Vick likes to roll out, hopefully, he'll roll right into a blitzer.
3) Put 8 in the box to stop the running game.
4) Bracket cover their TE.
5) Take away the slant passes from the WRs, forcing Vick to throw the deeper routes to his WRs. Which he has accuracy problems with.
6) Always hit Dunn on every play. Even if he is blocking, hit him HARD and knock him right into Vick. If he is in the backfield, he will most likely be running out in route after a soft chip block, so HIT HIM HARD, prior to getting beyond the LOS.

Basically, stop the run, push vick's OL into him and let the blitzer finish him off when he can't find running/passing lanes. Take away vick's safety players (Crumpler and Dunn) and make him throw the harder passes to beat us.

i think we're good because our defense is quick. UM is going to beat mini -Vick with their quick defense on saturday and the Dolphins are gonna beat big vick with their quick defense on Sundays. Its not the best weekend to be a vick.
