Why are you forced to choose icons for new threads?

I just got done trying to put a thread together from all the pics from the Ferrari show and now it just got wiped. There are no icons that even fit the description of my post.

Uhhh, is there any possible way we don't have to use an icon? It's a little annoying.

Click "no icon." It's at the left side of your screen.

Is there a way to just have it prompt for an icon if you forget to select one instead of loosing the whole thread? Seems quite a few people are making long posts only to have them disappear.
