If we sign him, so I don't understand this move (nothing against porter , because he's a great player).

In my opinion we need youth movement in this roster and not sign 2 years players stop gap, we need to built for the future and in this direction I wiould really prefer sign antwan peek and a very solid LB with our 3eme rounder (everett, burgess).

If our FO begin to sign 30 years players we are .......... for long but I repeat nothing against porter here, it's just the wrong direction IMO.

PS : and to finish , we should sign a good OL before nobody stay available because it's our n problem IMO.

yours opinions on that ?

Porter will just be 30 years old this season. He is still playing at a high level. He is a perfect fit for our defense. Think about it... you are an offensive coordinator playing against the Dolphins defense. Obviously, you slide your protections to Jason Taylor. Now up until this year, since Ogunleye left, teams have been able to do so and not get burned. Since we moved to the 3-4, we have lacked a pass rusher on the other side of JT to really benefit from offensive gameplans that focus on stopping #99. Porter is that guy. Thats the easy answer.

Now, if thats not enough, keep this in mind about the age of our defense. Look at who we have let go- Kevin Carter, Keith Traylor, Jeff Zgonina, Dan Wilkinson (likely cut soon), David Bowens, Donnie Spragan... the list goes on. These are all veteran guys who are 30+ years old, and all are gone. Who remains? Vonnie Holliday, Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas remain as the true leaders of the front seven, working with young guys like Channing Crowder, Matt Roth, the Wright brothers, Fred Evans and whoever else Randy and Cam bring in from this year's draft class. Not looking so old in the front seven anymore. We are really seeing a changing of the guard so to speak, and Porter would be another tremendous leader to go along with the three others we already have in place.

I think that fans want Porter because he would make our defense better instantly but I have to agree with you that he is almost thirty and not a building block for the teams longterm future. I like Harris as LB and I also like Peak.:dolphins:

You hit the nail on the head Dolfan1000.

Another thing I look at is his fire. I know Taylor and Thomas are both grreat leaders and will get in someone's face, but we've never really had a guy who gets media attention for his mouth. I think it's time we go get one of those guys that isn't afraid to open his mouth and get the team a little fired up. I normally object to these type of players, but Porter would be a nice fit.

Yes exactly.Porter will be a great fit on the other side of Zach.

The last guy we had to get media attention with his mouth and "FINGER" was Bryan Cox. We need PORTER.

To add my 2 cents about this potential move, Porter plays a position we have been sorely missing for years in this D. Someone to complement JT. At 30 yrs old, he still has 3-4 good yrs left. In this day and age of pro ball, that IS long term. I would have no problem with Porter coming here. At the second tier, we're not going to get anywhere near the quality of Porter. I'd rather have one Porter than two lesser players. We're not going to fill all the wholes anyway, so we might as well lock up that hole for longer term...

i hope we can sign Joey......he's one of the best linebackers in this league.

I absolutley hate his attitude at times but he is no doubt a playmaker and a field general. I wouldn't mind him, but knowing Porter, he will ask for crazy money.

Also if we sign him he can't pick six Daunte to put away another game.:boohoo: That game sucked to watch.

lets not forget or d backfield allowing a freaking tight end to go for 85 yards, sorry thought we were reliving painfull memories from that game. 3 guys covering hines ward when he hadnt caught a ball in 9 months nobody covers the 500 llb tight end:boohoo: :boohoo: :boohoo:

I have to completely disagree with you there. With Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas, Daunte Culpepper, and Vonnie Holiday over 30 years old...we are trying to win NOW.

We need to worry about infusing "youth" with the draft. We need to infuse "talent" that will help us win NOW via free agency.

So Joey Porter makes all the sense in the world.

I dont think Joey will ask for "crazy" money...but "fair market value" money.

In this year's free agent market...the fair market value is going to be based on what NE gives Adalius Thomas. Porter should at least ask for somewhere "near" what Thomas got...since they are both pretty much the same identical player.

Both Adalius and Joey are great pass rushers, 30 years old, and can pass cover well as well.

So whatever Thomas got from NE is what Porter should ask for as "fair market value".

We need to give it to him if we dont give it to Dielman. Mueller is being a "cheapo" because with the $19mil we have currently, plus the $2mil we will get from cutting/trading Harrington, and the $10mil we can free up by restructuring the deals of Mare, Taylor, Mcmichael, Zach, and Chambers...

there is no reason he can say that he "cant" afford both.

But he definitely needs to realize that "fair market value" is determined by what others of the same caliber are getting in the market.

If Steinbach and Dockery got $7mil a year for 7 years...Dielman "must" demand that..

Whatever Adalius Thomas got from NE...Porter "must" demand that...
