I watched the NE and the Baltimore games and it seemed like a de javu. first of all, jamming WRs at the LOS, knocks them off their route thus giving the pass rushers time to get to the QB. I am tired of our team giving so much room and free releases to WR and TE. This is a terrible scheme.

I don't think a coach should stick to just one scheme.. it should be based on your opponent. You should use the scheme that will give you the best chance to win. Not stuck on one stupid scheme. As a coach (soccer) myself, I don't line players up same way game in game out hoping to get lucky. That's why when you watch teams like NE and you see different approaches different games. Wached all our condensed games this year and the flaws are consistent.

Well, against Baltimore I assume we were scared to death of Wallace and Perriman's speed

Ya where is the press coverage we were supposed to see under Joseph? I have yet to see it in games.

I think this defense is holding the team back. And I heard of VJ's name been mentioned as a coaching candidate-please take him.

Yeah! Every 3rd and 3, we give five yards. SMDH! Did you see they just lined up and go for it on 4th downs ? Man they had us.

Actually they were catching passes with no defender close to them at all and I mean they were getting so much cushion that they were running 4 to 8 yards after the catch before there was any contact. And the bad part is that it happened the whole game too. There was zero adjusdment. Having said that, we lack on talent on that defense. We could have Bill Arnsparger as our DC and we would still be bad

Ozzy rules!!

Completely agree. Personally I want a switch to the 3-4.

To be successful defensively in modern day football at any level, you must be very flexible in your base packages. The 3-4 defense allows that.

Our current straight-forward attacking (yet bland) 4-3 Over requires elite talent to be able to lineup, declare your intentions, and execute properly. The only defense in the NFL that can do that is the Seattle Seahawks secondary (and we're about to find out if they can continue that without FS Earl Thomas), but they're front 7 still provides deception and confusion from their 4-3 Under.

We had the same issues with Coyle. The good news is that Joseph coached under Wade Phillips (3-4 coach) and we have a handful of players who could make that switch. Although it would be a two year project, I've already pointed out in different posts that with the mess we're in, due to inability to address defensive needs and lack of firepower in the upcoming draft, that we have delayed our own progress and are still on a two year path to rectify it.

I was shocked, during the game when they showed some graphic that the Ravens were very low in third down success, and Miami's D was very high in defending on third down. Of course, the Ravens shoved it down Miami's throats.

I'd disagree there. He would bring a mutiple look 3-4 Under defense which I'd like to see us move in the direction of. There is more flexibility and ability to disguise your defensive intentions.

Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

3rd down stop percentage means very little when opposing offenses have no problems converting on 1st and 2nd downs.

3-4 would be fine, I also think Suh can play a 3-4 end too. Wouldn't really change his responsibilities

He could play the DT 3 tech spot just as he is now in a 3-4.

3t - DT, 0t - NT, 5t - DE

Earl Mitchell played NT for Houston and that was Jordan Phillips position coming out of college as well.

Alonso would fit right into an OLB spot in a 3-4 and we have a darkhorse candidate (albeit vantablack) in Dion Jordon who should have been in a 3-4 all along. There's others that would traniation just fine as well and it would force us to put a premium on the LB corp - finally.

This is what I don't understand. Miami changed their whole defensive plan because of this. They still got gashed. Just like when Miami went to Denver to play manning with a top 5 defense. They were so scared of Manning that they totally abandoned what got them a top 5 defense. What's funny is after halftime vs Baltimore down 24-0 they made no adjustments and continued to give up 20 yard cushions
