Why CAN'T Reggie Bush be a featured back?

Ted Ginn was pretty deadly in college too. Just sayin'...

I agree though, no reason why Bush can't, but he does have an all-out style that makes him susceptible to injuries. I know I wasn't the only one holding my breath when he debuted in the Carolina preseason game.

But Ginn was never projected to go as high as Miami drafted him. Outside of Miami, it was a real WTF moment, when he was drafted by the Phins.

u would have to ask Bush. NO drafted him to be that guy but he struggled to produce and stay healthy. Maybe he will never be that guy

Bush had a shot and failed badly. When mclacster tore his ACL bush was given the chance to be the guy with the saints.
the saints gave him the keys. The saints could not run the ball and next year thomas was brought in.

Bush effectiveness nose dived when asked to perform the major ball carrier. He was very effective when he plays the 3rd down roll and in spread offence down.

Can be that guy - he could not when he was younger and before injury. For RB i do not think the clock ever goes back,he is very effective when asked to perform in a limited roll.NO decided they better have bush give quality ,effective 20 snaps a game then very watered down performance for 40 snaps.

I want to be wrong, but it's highly unlikely to me that Sean Payton and his staff are wrong and Tony Sparano and his staff are right...

Injury history is what everyone thinks is holding him back. So far it's proven to be true.

he played 4 positions in new orleans, most of his injurys came from that. He will only be playing 2 positions in miami, big difference. He can stay healthy in miami if they use him like u are suppose to use a featured back.

sean payton runs a offense around drew brees, reggie bush was only a good fit overthere because of how they used him. New orleans needs a Back who can get an extra few yards like ingram/pierre, except ingram also has the break out speed which is a +. I guarantee you new orleans does not trade reggie bush if ingram didnt fall to them, reggie is something special to have.

Frankly he's never done it. Split carries at USC with Lendale White whom took all the short yardage, goal line and between the tackle carries. Nothing appeared to change when he was asked to run inside in NO. I would love to see him used to his strengths out of the backfield, stretch plays, using him in motion and splitting him out. I'd limit his touches to 15 or so per game with about 50-50 run to catch. I think would be a game changer if we use him this way and hopefully avoid injuries that have haunted him. I'm even fine with not having in the return game if we keep his touches of this nature.

No sense it turning him into something he isn't.....he can be a force if we don't over think it.

Hes done just fine between the tackles in miami so far, who cares what he did in other places, if he believes he can do it than thats all you need to know. USC had two really good backs, of course they are going to get the most out of both of them, you dont wanna burn out your running back in college and make his nfl career short.

tiki barber (5'10" 205) didn't start getting 15+ carries per game until his 6th season. brian westbrook (5'10" 203) didn't start getting 15+ carries per game until his 5th season. there have been many precedents that indicate it's possible reggie bush can become an every down back. his desire is there, but i think it will have much more to do with the run blocking he gets from the offensive line for the next few seasons. if that isn't there, nobody (except maybe jim brown in his prime) is going to have any real success running between the tackles.

How the heck can you say Reggie bush is bigger than Ray rice...

Ray rice is 5'8 and 212 pounds...

Reggie is 6'0 and 200 pounds...

hmm, 4 inches shorter yet 10 pounds heavier, I wonder which guy is more sturdy/thick/ built to hold up to punishment.....

I think because of two things. First he's injury prone...enough said. Second, even in college he wasnt the featured back (he had lendale white). White got the tough yards and short yardarge plays. Bush was the open field or around the corner RB, he was so fast and had god given talent and vision he didnt need 20 carries a game to get over 100yards. The NFL is faster and defenses wont leave big holes open. I'm not saying he CANT be, i'm just saying why people are saying he CANT.

If Reggie didn't have chicken legs, he probably wouldn't have very many injuries.
