Maybe I'm a little confused. Why does everyone insist on remembering last year when they are forecasting the Dolphins of this year? What relevance does our 4-12 record of last year under a different Head Coach, QB, Offensive Line, Defensive Line, Offensive coordinator, OL Coach, GM, Running Back(s), safeties, and even Stadium name have on this year?

Last year doesn't matter! It has nothing to do with this year. NOW, even when we are leading the division, I still read on here that everyone needs to pace their excitement levels because we were bad last year. Last year doesn't matter!

Saban came in here and changed everything to make us succeed this year. He never said he was coming in here (ala Jimmy Johnson) to rebuild us to win in future years. He stood up at that podium and clearly said he is building this team to win now. Obviously, the team will be even more prone to success in future years because the team will have grown under him. But, he never came in here and said "We're straight off a year where we **** the bed so it'll take us a couple years to clean up!".....or maybe I missed a meeting. I often read posters on here and other boards that say "Well this is Saban's first year as a head coach." Well, to that I say (If you've even watched half of a Phins game this year then the rest is clear to you) Do you think he got here with a lucky lottery ticket? Do you think he just fell off a turnip truck in Davie?

Last year doesn't matter! Judge us only on our success THIS YEAR!

I just don't get what 2004 has to do with this season. It's done the books closed we can't get it back and wouldn't take it back if we could.

Those posters citing 2004 must be comparing us with all those other teams that have gone to the playoffs every season since their franchise begun...................?

Many so called experts tend to look at the way team played the year before, and instead of actually researching and doing their homework on why that team played so bad or so well, they just expect that because the team was so bad last year, they have to be just as bad this year, and talk about it like there is no doubt in the world they are wrong.

I personally find people thinking this is the same team that we had last year as being an advantage, there are many out there that cannot believe Miami is in 1st place, and believe with two more weeks, Miami will be back in last where there belong, well, I say let them continue to think that way, in fact I hope they think this way all the way to the end of January. :D

Right and they'll also say that we can't be like the all of the other teams who have turned it around fast and had much better success in a season after a horrible one the year before. Agree 100% with everything you say.

What other boards? Can you list them out, I am sure the mods wont mind? :D

But not sure who is comparing this team to last years in a negative way, I thinks its a bench mark for showing how this team is different, how its improved.

Granted all teams start with a clean slate. I am all for forgetting the past, but some of the personnel is the same. Much of the OLine is the same and its fair to measure them this year with how they performed last year. At the same time, with the change of personnel its fair to compare this years running game or lets say coverage defense with last years.

So take it with a grain of salt, that yes, this is a new year and new scheme but since we cant measure this team's performance with a future year, we can only measure them against former years. That being said, I prefer to measure them against no one but themselves. I believe that most players in this league are interchangeable and could just as easily fail in another scheme as much as they could succeed in a different setting.

I compare this team to nothing more than Coach Saban's expectations and the opposing team they are playing in a given week. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yeah for some unknow reasons teams "now" percieved as great turned it around right after a bad year. None of those teams has half the legacy of winning that our team has. Rams did it. Who were the Rams before '99? They were historically one of the worst teams in the NFL for decades. Panthers did it. They had won ONE game the year before they were in the big dance. San Diego turned it around in one year from 3-13 to 13-3.

But we couldn't do it too. Not the Dolphins.....the winningest team in proffesional sports. The only NFL team to EVER in 40 years to have a perfect record. A franchise that recruited the most highly sought coach in recent history. No, we couldn't do that......could we?

I tend to look at it the other way, I hope we and the front office never forget last year! It was horrible and rock bottom! I want Wayne to remember it and never to let it happen again.

If thats the case then there are boatloads of recent years when they were one game away from the playoffs or in the playoffs. If last years team hadn't changed much from the year before (which with the exception of Ricky being gone and Booker coming in it hadn't) then why not compare it to 2003 or 2002? I would find that to be a much more astute comparison as those teams were expected to go to the playoffs and simply hadn't.

Maybe I missed a meeting....I remember him saying he would make haste slowly, but I don't recall him saying he is building Miami to win now.

Would you mind providing a link?
