what about those who DO care about HS games?

Dude,

Is your hair getting a little thin in front? Ask your doctor about Propecia....

You're very wrong on that.

As Superself said, advertising is presold and regardless of any numbers the game would bring, the advertisers would in fact demand refunds and they'd get them for the network not delivering the programming they bought.

The numbers could be astronomical but it would do CBS squat without the ad revenue.

so what if they want a refund? give it too them and im sure the regular nfl sponsers would buy the remainder. im not in marketing, but to suggest the game couldnt happen because of advertising is kinda wacky, imo

what about when the saints and giants played on ESPN? you think ESPN was like, "well, we got the figure staking sponsers, they might want a refund. forget the NFL." ???

Well at least you understand HALF of it. The answer to the second part is in the first. Advertising.

If CBS releases the game to DTV to broadcast via Sunday Ticket, that means millions of viewers who would otherwise watch CBS's Friday night lineup will not be there....advertisers would lose out due to loss of viewership and so would CBS.

The 2 primary demographs of any network's friday night lineup are senior citizens and 15-and-under slumber party attendants, because everybody else has plans to go out. Now, I could be wrong, but neither of those demographs are heavily laced with Dolphyins fans. Erego, there is no conflict.

Go to your high school game and tape the Dolphins game.

This is precisely why the "high school football" reason for not showing the game nationally is ridiculous. Having an NFL game on TV does NOTHING to any high school games.

Your right you don't understand marketing.

No one said the game could'nt happen.
It is happening. :shakeno:

Secondly, When the Saints and Giants played on ESPN it was done as a "donation" by the NFL to air a telethon for disaster relief funds.

Secondly, advertisers on ESPN are already buying sports programming and footballs audience kinda matches sports programming audiences don't ya think?

A little different when your talking prime time TV audiences of specific shows versus audiences of football programming.

"not gonna happen" was a national broadcast. you make good points.

either way CBS still wants the game. any network would take the game. being able to promote their own shows to a wide audience would outweigh advertising loss, imo. if i was an advertiser, regardless of my product, i would much rather my commercial be seen by a wider audience...like i said im not an advertiser

You are more likely to win with the argument that Direct TV should pick up the telecast. That is something that they could possibly work out and that they should find a way to work out.

There is an NFL policy not to broadcast games nationally on days/evenings that there are high school and college games.

This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. How many people (besides parents) actually watch high school football. Freaking ridiculous. :fire:

I think this is a bad move because on friday nights, people go to HS football games, not watch on TV. On TV theres like 2 college games, usually crap teams. NFL should just make a deal with NCAA or something. As for saturdays, I can understand how NCAA wants only college games. But fridays...this is BS.

I am still hoping that the owner of the sportsbar by my house can pick up the game...the game will be sent from Miami up to the satellite and then down to the KC area....if you know the transponder codes you can pick up the game....the bar I go to here in Colorado has NINE satellite dishes and so I will call him tomorrow to see if I can maybe still get to see it. The owner spent about 45 minutes looking for the signal the last time I went there when a hurricane ruined the schedule and he eventually got the game on the big screen.

aren't there..

NFL games going to be played on Jan. 1st going head-to-head with bowl games... sounds like BS to me!

here is a quote on yahoo......

The game will be televised by CBS affiliates in primary secondary markets in South Florida and Kansas City. But there will be no national telecast.

"We are not extending the telecast to more markets because we want to adhere as closely as possible to the spirit of our longstanding policy not to conflict with high school and college football during their seasons [which means Friday night and Saturday]," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said.

someone tell me.....what the Phins game has to do with high school football.....now I know most high school games are Friday night at 7ish...but come on....
Also...this whole Friday game.....man...im just getting over sundays loss....hit me with another loss now...and im dead....be like 10 days before we play again.... im all flustered...trying to figure out if this helps or hurts us....im dying here.....go phins....

Well, we'll get more time to prep for the Saints game. Plus, look at it this way. How was the regular routine working for us that last couple of weeks? Maybe we needed a shaking up.

Take care Florida. :)

Yeah, I can understand that since there are sooooo many high school football games on TV.
It's a stupid excuse , but I accept it. However, there is no excuse for Direct TV not to show the game since those who receive the service are paid subscribers. This will be may last season paying for that over priced package.
