I really thought Cleo Lemon might start the last 2 games to see what he can do but there are 2 big reason's I don't think that will happen now.

First is that I think that the team wants to showcase Joey to see if they can trade him in the offseason. Even if they get a 4th round pick it's better than what we gave up for him.

Second is that they don't want to showcase Cleo, because they feel he will be a capable back up next year for Daunte. If he comes out and plays good the last 2 games it will end up driving up his value as he hits Free Agency this offseason.

This ofcourse is only my opinion but playing Cleo would do nothing except give other teams a chance to see him in regular season games, and might force us to pay more to keep him another year while Joey is currently 5-5 as a starter with us, and has an opportunity to go 7-5 which may get some teams interested in giving up say a conditional 4th round pick for him.

What do you guys think?

I think Joey's season thus far has shown the rest of the league exactly what he's capable of.

They were mentioning that on 790 The Ticket yesturday or the day before. We might not want to show him off since he will be a restricted FA... and if a team out bids us for him... we would get no compensation since he was an UDFA...

Which is what? I think he's proven he reads the field very quickly but still hasn't gained the confidence to throw the deep ball. Could that because he is still gun shy of what he dealt with in Detroit and will eventually come out of it, or is this the type of player he is and he will never be more than this. I think in less than 1 year with Miami he has shown he could be an effective quarterback to run a team that has a lot of talent but not one that is going to put the team on his shoulders and win a big game. I almost think he would fit much better in a west coast type offense?

What is your opinion on Joey?

Amazing, a reasonable post on finheaven the week after a loss...

I think that is very possible. It would be good business to, at the very least re-coup the draft pic we had to surrender for Harrington in the process of trading him...

On the other hand, Brady looked just as bad against us as Harrington did against the Bills, and he didn't have to deal with any adverse weather conditions. Lemon does appear to have a brighter upside though, IMHO...

well thought out,and very possible.

Thanks. It's a slow day at work, and I needed to do something that would keep me awake.

With that being said I hope we play some of the younger guys like Evans, Vickerson and Vick that has not been activated for any games this year, and maybe give Hagan and Roth more playing time the last 2 games.

I'm not as upset about that loss as it was very clear that they went extremely conservative due to the strong winds and Joey doesn't have a strong arm.

My main question is can Joey actually throw the deep ball. He seems to only throw to the guy open instead of throwing it up to say Chambers to give him a chance to make a play on the ball. I don't think I've ever seen a quarterback that never tried to throw deep or atleast as rarely as he does, and that includes Fiedler.

have you thought about the play calling?the mull man strikes again

I have considered the play calling but I've also heard Nick say numerous times that they call a play to go deep, and for some reason it doesn't happen. Obviously he doesn't want to call out Joey but all you have to do is read between the lines. I've even heard Joey say he throws to the first person he see's open but that goes against Chambers strengths. Chambers will out jump most any corner in the NFL, and I don't think Joey takes that in consideration.

Saban Said that this wk there were a few deep plays called and they weren't excecuted. He also said we were too much on the conservative side when throwing deep as well. So basically. he wants more deep plays called and for Joey to throw it deep when called.

Exactly. That's not the first time he's said it either. I think it's clear for whatever reason Joey does not have the confidence to throw it deep, even when the play is called to go deep. Did anyone watch him in Detroit. Did he ever throw it deep there. I almost think he's just lost the confidence to throw the deep pass.

While my opinion of Joey isn't as important as say, an NFL coaches, I'll bite and answer this one.

Joey is an inconsistent quarterback. He has all the tools to succeed: A decent arm, good smarts, great heart. He just doesn't have all 3 wired into each other. He has never, and will never perform close to his draft status or ability. He has not done well even as a game manager - not in west coast style offenses, not in vertical offenses, and the one time he gets a game plan specifically suited to his strengths - quick read, get the ball out quick, not too much range - he threw up the worst performance by a Miami quarterback in as much as I can remember. I don't mind having him here as a backup, but to think that any other team is going to offer us more than what we got him for, and that's being generous, is absolutely preposterous.

The thought that we have nothing to lose by playing Lemon is wrong in that we *do* have something to lose - there are two games left in the season. In spite of the completely tepid performance of Joey Harrington, he was at the helm during our winning streak, and he's being rewarded by being the starter, albeit on a short leash. If Cleo gives us the best chance to win, then by all means he'll be inserted into the game. Maybe next year will see a different story in TC.

I don't agree that JH reads the field quickly. I think he tends to pre-determine his throws. When he actually tries to read the field he doesn't seem instinctive enough.

I must say that I was a bit encouraged by what he did against the Jags. Sure his stats sucked, but I saw him attempting deeper passes and waiting for routes to develop. That showed a willingness to change that I hadn't seen in him before. In the end I still think he's just too inaccurate, too often on the longer passes to be anything more than a backup, though.

This is an interesting post and a scenario that could be true.

I'd like to add though that they may not start Lemon the next two games simply because they don't think he's capable at this point or that they just don't feel he's an upgrade.

We'll see how he does in camp next year if he dosen't get in.
