I thought the point of his hire was to bring Green Bays offensive system to Miami. Was Joe just a line coach with an OC title? I know McCarthy called the plays, but it doesn't seem that Philbin is any different than Sparano as far as qualifications to run an NFL offense.

Ross hired him because he liked all the neatly organized index cards that Philbin used during the interview.

He also said he has connections to hire a gem of a coach named Jim Turner. He not only had extensive oLine experience, but specialized in hazing in college.

Why did Ross hire Joe Philbin?
Because he brought one of these with him, which made him seem prepared...

I'm guessing something about top-ten offenses and that superbowl thing...

Why was he hired? Because he showed up with his shoes tied.

And he wore loafers.

This statement doesn't seem true.

Hold up let me form a trust committee. Ill let you know what they tell me in a bit.... :(

I was listening to Mike & Mike this morning. They interviewed Jim Caldwell and revealed that Lions ownership hired him because Caldwell asserted some platitude stipulating that "the Lions are ready to win now" whereas other candidates offered a 3 or 4 year visionary plan. If I were a Lions fan I would be upset if Whisenhunt did not get the job because he had the audacity to come to the interview prepared and put forth a long term vision for the team.

Seriously, when is this crap going to stop? Philbin was hired because he came to the interview prepared and presented a long term vision for the team. And we are supposed to believe that Ross is so clueless as to be taken in by a ruse? I think we all like the Lazor hire and if you listen to his press conferences he made it clear that he wanted to work with Philbin, even under the condition that he would not be allowed to bring his own coaches with him. I suppose Lazor was also taken in by Philbin's ruse when he could've gone to Detroit or continued to work for Chip Kelly. And he took the job also knowing, that in theory, Philbin's job security is in jeopardy.

I think people want to work for Philbin precisely because he is a delegator as opposed to a micromanager. I think that right now Philbin deserves the benefit of the doubt now that the stench of Ireland has finally been purged from the organization.

I liked Philbin but can't get the bad taste out of my mouth about his failure to see or address glaring weaknesses early in the year, after going 3-0 then collapsing. A HC needs to step up when play calling or fairly obvious lack of prep or fire are apparent. 2014 will tell a lot about his "vision" talked about during his meeting with Ross for HC.

Philbin is a nice high character guy… Honestly I have not seen anything from him yet that would tell me otherwise. If we start winning games it doesn't really matter anyways.

Sparano may have been better. Sparanos average offensive rank is 19 while Philbins is 26. Can you believe it!

If Ireland could have given Philbin, Sparano's o-line we would have been in the post season.

58 sacks allowed, I'm not surprised.
