Why Did Russell Make It Over Vick?

I don't understand how Russell made it over Vick on the active roster. I think even Gibson should have made it over Russell.

maybe because there was a better chance to re-claim vick than russell (he may have been claimed by another team).

in the end, it doesn't matter. vick is part of the team. players from the practice squad can be activated any week into the active squad.
 
It's pretty clear it's his special teams play. Saban indicated he was sweating it with Vick - and seems pretty happy he was not claimed on waviers.
 
aside from ST, Russell's far more polished as a WR and can help us more at WR for the time being.

I think you guys believe Gibson or Vick should have made it over him becuase you saw more from them in the preaseason when infact Russell was the standout in camp. He wasn't used as much probably because he had already proven himself to be much better than the other 2.

I think he probably proved to be more valuable than marcus at the current time.
 
good on special teams and NFL ready. I believe Marcus Vick has potential, but right now he just isn't ready for the NFL. Remember, he came out after his junior year in college.
 
Gibson played even a less relevant role on special teams...

So you can argue even more in Russell's defense when comparing to Gibson. Vick had more a role in special teams than Gibson. The 5th receiver really needs to play special teams, and I feel more comfortable with Russell on special teams than Gibson. PLain and simple. I probably like Gibson as a receiver, but I don't like him as a runner on special teams.

Atleast he has a good attitude on his situation. It also makes sense that Saban would make the decision best for the team. There just wasnt enough room for vick to make the roster this year due to injuries.

Special teams coverage.

If Sammy Morris didn't go down, he probably wouldn't of made it.

Yes your right, Gibson and Russell clearly were better Wr's, and welker was clearly a better KR/ST player then Vick.

They can also be clapmed by any other team. Think the rule is if another team claims a PS player u have to put him on the active roster or lose him.
