Obviously as a fan, I would rather have 3 rounds on Sat and have it start earlier. So what's the actual reason that the NFL changed the format to 2 rounds starting at 4:00pm?

I dnt know, but i think they will regret it when people start to tune out around 10pm.

My guess is to get more fans viewing the 1st round in prime time. I don't know the numbers, but, my guess is the draft gets lower viewership as it progresses. They want the big pop to come later in the day, probably for ad revenue, I'm guessing.

1 more move by this egotistical Commisioner. He is trying to leave his footprint on everything. Last I heard he is somehow related to the Castro Brothers.

This change totally screwed up my traditional Draft Weekend schedule!

This change is obviously horrible for fans. The ability to wake up and know I have two full days is awesome. Waiting till 4:00pm for the start sucks. And then most fans won;t see their teams pick until deep into the evening.

Did the NFL ever release anything saying specifically why they made the change?

Did I mention already that our Commish sucks?

yeah the time change is just dumb. I liked the idea that the draft was all i was going to do on saturday. now I have to fill at least 4 hours with nonsense. Plus, ESPNs coverage still starts at 12, so they're going to spend all day talking about NOTHING.

The NFL does not care about fans like you. Why should they? Would you ever stop watching? Chances are you wouldn't. They are targeting the casual fan and, the curious. When you have a market base locked down, there is not really much use catering to them. You do minor customer maintainance, but the real goal is to squeeze what's left out of you, and, grow the product into untapped markets.

I keep telling people.....Don't like the commish? Don't watch the games. Don't by the merch. Don't buy tickets. Won't happen though. The real draft addicts will watch if you put on the draft at 1AM.

They are trying to draw the fan that doesn't usually watch. You may not like it, but think about it. Every rabid draft addict is going to watch the first round no matter what time it comes on. Pushing back the time enables the NFL to draw the guy sitting home that goes..."Meh..Might as well watch" for the first round.

There are a few things most rabid football fans can't get through their heads.

1- The players could not care less about you as a person or a fan.
2- The NFL does not care about you, other than to get your money.

Haven't we been doing that for months? What's 4 more hours gonna hurt?

I don't like the change, but, it enables me to ensure I have enough rum and mixer in case I dont resist temptation friday :D

They could have the draft start at any time of day on any date of the year and I would absolutely watch so you are right there.

they changed the format because the first round in 2007 lasted until 9, and the first day wasn't done until after midnight. They did this to get the draft to move faster (15 minutes was way too long for round 1), and to get more people to watch on Sunday because there's less tv competition on Sundays.

15 minutes was agonizing. I personally think they should shrink the time some more. 5 minutes should be more than enough per pick. What else new are you going to discover? I know the deal with trades, but, I promise you, teams will trade if they want to trade, no matter what the time frame.

As it is starting at 4, it wont be done until after midnight. I like the shortened time, but should have started earlier.

Let's face facts. It's all about the $$$$. By starting later and drawing out the process for the first two rounds into the evening, they somehow think they can draw more viewership and advertising $$$$. Like everything else, they've screwed it up and over-tweaked it so that it's just a big P.R. stunt.

Actually I agree this is the reason why they did it, but I think its very dumb. Why would they want to compete with the NBA playoffs?

They could have easily put it back to 12pm start have everyone watch 6 hours of coverage before tunning out to watch the playoffs.
