Why did we get rid of Wes Welker again?????

Reasons would include that Bess is slower than Welker, and less elusive.

wes welker is in touch with his QB. thats what makes him elusive. he runs routes down seem, over middle, back and forth go routes, slants, outs, and brady knows where the dude is at all times.

Brady was Brady before welker, but welker made brady even better. bess is not slower. bess is not completely in touch with his offense. BB would love to have Bess right now. u kiddin me? then were right back at same discussion.

If Miami had kept Welker, he wouldn't be leading the league in passing today. Welker with Miami fumbled a lot, wasn't nearly as fast as he his now, and he would suck with Henne right now.

was beginning to think I missed something until I finally got to your post...

thats the wes welker I remember as well... fumbling, slow, always falling down. I would swear he was on ice skates sometimes. there isn't a team in the league who would have put a 1st round tender on him at that time, had he been on any other roster

Well I think this is my first post or 2nd. Honestly I remember Wes when we had it. He was a tough little guy returned punts (average). Brady makes Welker good in my opinion!

I have noticed that most people in this site are the biggest bandwagons there are. I am sure alot of us cheered when we traded Welker for a 2nd round.

Here is something funny. We are praising Luck before he plays in the NFL. Lets just say he gets drafted #1 and turns out to be a big bust (Probably wont happen) it has happened before *cough* Ryan Leaf *Cough*. If Luck were to be a bust you will all get off the wagon and start saying "I am glad we didnt draft him" or " I knew he wouldnt be that good"

Believe me if we were all mind readers we would draft Sidney Rice instead of John Beck. How about Ware , I would draft him over Ronnie Brown. My point is Tom Brady was late pick look how he turned out. This board thinks to much about the past and our mistakes. Its a draft, its a gamble. Sometimes you have obvious choices (Jake Long).

Brett Favre made Sidney Rice. He wont do well without him.

I cant believe we didnt franchise him

welker looked good but nobody would have franchised him. The smart thing to do would have been to put a first round tender on him but we tried to be cheap. Amazing for all the hype that Ronnie Brown had on this board no team offered a first rounder for him last year yet, Wes Wlekr got snatched up immediately lol. Welker is the most underrated player in the NFL to me, people keep making excuses for his success even when defenses focus on him.

At the time the second seemed amazing for him but who knew he would be as good as he was. The problem with this league is that no matter what Welker does on the field people get too caught up with size and speed and not what they actually do on field.

Wes Welker use to run around down here open all day just like he does with the Pats.If you go back and watch the games he played with us you can see him open ALL DAY.....our QB's were just so bad..... Even tho' you could see it on tv the QB's could never see it when they were playing.

So why did Wes Welker go to the Pats, that's easy because Cam Cameron is a dink that didn't know what he was doing, and the same go's for the GM at the time.

He had 12 fumbles with Miami over 3 years, he has 7 with NE over 4 years.

Part of that is brady putting it on the money where he can run after the catch. In Miami he usually got drilled because the pass was behind or off target.

12 fumbles in 390 touches really isn't that bad. 1 per 32.5 touches

Devon Hester has 26 fumbles in 501 touches. 1 per 19.2
Josh Cribbs has 25 fumbles in 623 touches. 1 per 24.9

Welker blows them away with 19 fumbles in 961 touches. 1 per 50.5

Try again.

He probably didn't "fit his system". Nevermind coaching to your talents instead of the other way around...

Ginn's not the #1 guy in SF...He's a real genuine threat there? laughable. Besides being a returner, Ginn is worthless as a WR.

Ginn isn't even the #2 in SF. You have Crabtree, Edwards, and Morgan. Ginn has 4 catches after 3 games....that's it....heck, he might be the #5. There is some guy named Williams that has more catches than him...

Exactly. The guy is a "gamer." He is just a plain good football players. Anyone with two eyes could see that, even when we weren't using him correctly...or enough. He didn't magically become a great player when he went to the Pats...he was always a great player. It was our team and his usage that sucked...

No, he would never have put up the same numbers with us...but that is an indictment of our coaches...not of his talent.

I remember watching a Miami Vs Pats game about 5 years ago at a restuarant bar. We had Welker and he made some plays. This guy was a Pats fan. I said What do you think of Wes Welker. he said Who????? True Story
I wish I could of said then, the ****ing guy who is gonna be your best reciever in the future moron!!!

Not only that the patriots play him on the slot often. Line backers cant cover him! You need your 1st or 2nd corner on him. He does the most damage on those 3rd and longs, even 4th downs.

Wait. Now people are saying we were stupid not to franchise him? Do you know how up in arms the masses here would be. We would than have to pay him like a top 5 receiver in the league. That would be on par if we franchised brian hartline since we've gotten the same production from both while they were here. God, the extent people will go to just to moan and complain about something.

NE put a nasty poison pill in the the contract saying if he played 6 games a year in Miami the contract would be guaranteed. The way the money was constructed, there was no way we could match it. There was no way we were keeping him without putting a huge financial burden on the team. All for a receiver that was pretty decent for us.
