i dont know if this has already been addressed but why didn't we bracket moss with a safety over the top all game? Other teams have done that this season with good results. The patriots running game is sound but they're not going to dominate a game with it yet we consistently had moss in single coverage. Just wondering if any of you guys had any ideas why we didnt do this?

Why, if we're running a 3-4 D, was JP playing a down lineman all game?

i was asking myself the same exact thing... its like we didnt play our defense all game.

The real reason is probably somewhere between trying to cover 5 WR while getting pressure on the QB.
I think the Pats run spread offense against 3-4 teams quite often because that seems to be their major weakness. We started to do the same thing back and their defense couldn't stop it.
Spread them wide force them to sit linebackers and suddenly you dictate the play.
I wonder why we went man coverage so much. Time to start dialing up zone blitzes, especially considering Matt Cassel is still not an experienced QB.

Right I think they were attemting to make Cassel beat us and when he proved he could do that, they realized they needed to put pressure on him, unfortunatly no matter what we tried they were beating us.
Honestly this is a team that is trying to break out- they show all the signs. Struggle with offense one game, special teams the next (or all but one) and then struggle on defense. We can beat any team in the NFL when they are not fireing on all cylinders but when a good team comes to play and has a solid game plan we will lose- until we have one more solid draft and FA period.
We all knew this week one and nothing has changed. This team is moving up and thats something we havent been able to say since 2000
Then you have one guy cover 2 receivers. Better them get the ball then moss. HELLOO 3TDs...

I'm shocked we didn't double Moss. It was a huge mistake. In the press conferences leading up to the game Sporano said they were going to double Moss.
It's been a long time since the last game Moss wan't doubled. This was the result.
Make Jabar Gaffney and Ben Watson beat you. I'm sure we could have held on a few of those redzone stands if Moss was doubled.

They still have Welker on the other side. And BOTH Moss and Welker had huge games against us! The Pats exposed our suspect secondary and I think it's time to address it come the offseason. And that's exactly what BP, TS, and JI will do.
im alright with welker picking up his yards underneath. What i'd rather not have is moss picking up thirty yards a catch and scoring multiple touchdowns. I think we played well in this game but i would have liked to have seen us take moss out the game and see how else the patriots could beat us.
