when GM's of their teams whiff on draft picks? I'm guilty of it as well. All of the missed draft picks in the past. But why do we as fans get upset? Deep down we all know that hitting the next superstar player or impact player is almost like a lottery pick. Thoughts?

But then again,

You see those consistent teams who build through the draft and retain success. But we can all agree those consistent teams are those that have elite QB's, which go back to the lottery hit or miss argument.

Food for thought though!

I think, at least for myself, it's a matter of feeling there are better options. For example, I was upset with the Ginn pick. Not because I thought Ginn was a bad player, but because I felt there were better available. Now looking back on it, Revis and Willis proved me right

Why do we get upset? We invest alot of time in our team. We want to see them succeed and if a pick we believe is bad is made then we are liable to get upset.

Fans get upset when GMs (who are paid big $) pick guys that don't pan out. It's frustrating because that's what they get paid for! It's like we could've done a better job.

We get upset when we have a million holes on defense and our GM decides to use 3 picks to draft a 4th string WR when that is our deepest position!!

Ozzy rules!!

Because sometimes you see an obvious need and they can't for some reason. I know it sounds crazy to think the fans could know more than a gm but how can you explain 3 straight years of not addressing the guard position only to watch it derail your season 3 times in a row? That's the definition of crazy.

Also sometimes you just KNOW a player is gonna be amazing and you want that on your team. I REALLY wanted Zeke or Bosa last year because I'm a huge buckeye fan and knew they were gonna be studs. But then again the only thing that irritated me about last years draft was Zeke went to the ****ing cowgirls.

Because many fans can see the pick is bad when it happens and can give a better option.

It's simple, because they think they can do better. Even teams who draft well whiff on draft picks. It is a crap shoot but you have to set yourself up for success whenever possible. Fans love to talk about what they would have done or who they would have picked instead of a player they wouldn't have chosen. It sorta reminds me of gamblers who only have voice when they win....you always hear about those. Never do you hear about all the losses they piled up between those wins.

I think most fans have enough common sense to know that they don't have the skills or knowledge of ther game to be players. Even coaching is something that most would say they don't know the game enough to do what a head coach does. But drafting players... simply looking at a list of names, some of which we're familiar with and making a selection we all look at that and say "now there's an NFL job I can do. Make a selection and hope you're right 50% of the time."

It seems like anyone can do it because it doesn't seem like anything more than mildly educated gambling. Keep a few rules in mind and it's a crapshoot after that.

Honestly I don't think the job of GM is that hard. Yes, it's a **** ton of work, but seriously, a lot of us know a lot about football, and a lot of us know what positions need to be drafted or filled, and when the staff doesn't address those positions knowing it's a major weakness, and drafts a position we are already deep on like in the recent past, it's so damn irritating. Think about it, every coaching staff has "their ppl" and they tend to hire their ppl even if they are not good, (ie. Philbin hires sherman) it's more about who you know than what you know in this league

LOL, if only it were as easy as you make it out to be. You know what is easy? Pointing to someone else's job and saying oh I can do that BETTER without actually doing it.

I think people's sports teams are just another form of brand loyalty combined with the human nature of competition. It is actually pretty funny if you think about how passionate we are about our brands and teams to the point of not liking someone who likes something else. It is Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge. In my case, it is Harley Davidson and nothing else. While I love all other riders, there is Harley and all other brands I refer to as "not a Harley" haha It is pretty comical how much we are in to our brands and teams as a society!

I thought we wasted Draft picks on Carroo too. However, as was explained to me - the team had invested heavily in Adam Gase as the new Coach and Tannenbaum, Grier and co wanted to give him more weapons to make the Offense far more potent. It appears we had a very high Draft grade on Carroo (and we had lots of other needs as well). We haven't seen enough of Carroo to call him a bust, partly because Landry, Stills and Parker all had good availability and they're all pretty good. Think of this as a red shirt year and let's see what he can do next year if given some more opportunities. To date, Carroo appears expensive in terms of Draft picks, but let's analyze further after we see more of what he can do. He's got good hands and he's physically strong and hard to stop.
