I understand that people think C. Long may end up being great but he's projected to play OLB in a 3-4 scheme. The last time that I can remember an OLB being taken high was L. Arrington to Washington and he didn't pan out. He was a monster in college and people compared him to L.T. C. Long hasn't even played the position and he's being hyped as the number one pick by fans here.

If the Dolphins are going to take an OLB with the first pick it should be V. Gholston. He seems more suited to play OLB.

I hope that the Dolphins take J. Long or M. Ryan with the first pick. Both of those positions are worthy of the pick. This franchise has struggled without a decent offensive line and LT. Same with the QB position.

Couldnt agree more. If we go defense I want Gholston. In my mind I want Ryan, if not him, J.Long, and if not him Gholston.

they were saying at Gholstons Pro day he has Problems Changing Direction and i dont really want an OLB that cant Change Direction very good Chris Long is an Awsome Player and how would you know if Gholston can Play OLB he didnt play that in college he played DE in the 4-3 and Chris Long played DE in the 3-4 and he some times stood up so i think Chris Long is alot Better then Vernon Gholston as of Right now C. Long is a Bill Parcells Type of Player

i want us to pick glenn dorsey but i wouldn't mind gholston, c.long or ellis...i just don't want matt ryan..i think ryan can be successful but imo he's overrated..
to come back to the matter-because arrington didn't plan out it doesn't mean that long will not plan out, too...i trust in the opinion of sparano, parcells and ireland to chose who will be best for us...

You may be right, but my main point was that the Dolphins shouldn't take an OLB with the first pick. They shouldn't draft Gholston or C. Long. OLB isn't as much of an impact position as QB or LT.

While I agree to an extent, sometimes there are extenuating circumstances that can validate such a move.

For example, this draft is very deep at the tackle position, maybe we think we can grab a tackle at 32 that's not too far off from Long and if our staff just doesn't think Matt Ryan is worth the number 1 pick, then why not take an OLB?

Not to mention an OLB in a 3-4 is essentially a linebacker and a d-end.

Long is not an OLB though. He's 6'4" 280... with his athleticism, that is more than enough physically to play a 3-4 DE

He's 280 soaking wet. Plus, most people here claim he's an OLB in a 3-4 defense. I think at DE in a 3-4 he would get swallowed up, plus the DE in a 3-4 isn't a playmaker. If he's a DE in the 3-4 the pick has even less value because an OLB is worth more than an DE in a 3-4 defensive scheme.

go jake becasue it helps out so many other postitions, where if we had an olb, whats the most that can do, o line is just more of a need and more of an impact postion. take htis offseaosn fa for example there are so many de/olb available wach year, how many times do u have the chance to take a frachchise lt

The positions may be worthy of the pick, but the top rated players in those positions this year are not, in the opinion of many scouts and FO's. This is where so many people get tripped up, they think "best QB or best LT" equates to "best player overall"- which isn't always true.

Depends on your team/draft philosophy's I don't believe in drafting LB's in the first round.
LB (with notable exceptions) are very replaceable, unlike a franchise LT or QB.

I find it funny when people say we may not have JT this year, so we HAVE to draft an OLB . . . what nonsense. We have several OLB options on this team right now . . . yea none of them are probably better than Long or Gholston, and most of them probably aren't ideal for the 3-4, but we have bodies . . . . However . . . we have ONE frikkin tackle (no offense to Julius Wilson, but I don't believe he has played in a game before) . . . and we have the option to draft a BEAST in Jake Long . . . I mean geez people, it doesn't seem that hard to figure out. The last time we went tackle in the first round, we picked up a SOLID guy in Vernon Carey . . . and Long on paper looks like he will be MUCH better than Carey . . . imagine having those 2 at Tackle . . . really would be something special.
