I mean, last year our Oline was one of the few bright spots (although looked rough on occasion). This year it seems to be even better, young, but better.

You have:
Long--#1 overall pick who should immediately be a 'good' to 'very good' LT

Smiley--Proven Guard who is considered a top notch O lineman.

Satelle--Showed last year that he could be a perenial pro bowler and should be better now that he has a years experience

Carey--Another guy who has proven he can play. Will be great as a RT

Now our RG position is up in the air, but we have athletism and talent there with Thomas, Murphy and a proven player in McKinney.

I feel like this line is TOP NOTCH...

But then again, Im a biased chump! hahahaha.

They have yet to gel... plus the world likes to **** on Miami when ever they can get a chance.

Understand they have to gel, but Ive read on multiple occasions about how we have a lack of talent there, and stuff like that. One thing there isnt is a 'lack of talent'...
Sporting News ranked our OL unit as the 2nd to WORST in the AFC...come on.

just like he said in the above post, i think everyone likes to find something wrong with us every chance they get no matter what.

Yea, that's stupid. The defense has been showing up the O-Line thus far in camp but if they weren't I'd be Very worried because the defense is supposed to be ahead of the offense right now. If the offense kept breaking off long runs and our QB's never seemed to miss a target then we would be in for a LOOOONG season because that would mean our Defense was looking horrible.

LT LG C RG RT Jake Long Justin Smiley Samson Satele Shawn Murphy Vernon Carey B B+ B- C C+

Those are the grades that the clown on CBS Sportsline gives our OLINE....a B minus overall...20th/32...

I mean...Satele a b-? No wayyy, minimum a B....

Vernon Carey a C+??? Wow...again, a B minimum, B+ possibly!

Smiley I agree with and Long FOR NOW is fine at a B.

i find it funny that Long hasnt played 1 down but he is over Satele and vernon lmao. Just goes to show ya that these people do not know what they speak of.

Exactly! I mean, those two guys have proven they can play. I wouldnt even argue about them putting Long as a C+ since hes never played, but the other two guys are quality IMO.

As good as they are on paper the OL is sucking major @ss in pass protection through camp thus far, judging by the sack numbers being tossed about and some of the sack descriptions. They are, above all, the YOUNGEST offensive line in the league, especially if Donald Thomas nails down the RG job. Jake Long is 23, Justin Smiley is 26, Samson Satele is 23, Donald Thomas is 22, and Vernon Carey is the elder statesman at 27. We've got two rookies on the OL and one second year guy, two fifth year guys. Average age is 24.2 years old. Average vested seasons is 1.8 seasons. Total number of games started among the five is 113, average of about 23 games (about 1.4 seasons worth of games).

By far the youngest and most inexperienced line in football, I'd imagine. Growing pains will abound...especially in pass pro.

But take heart, this time last year the OL looked like crap and Rex Hadnot looked like a worthless piece of crap. They did pretty well the first 7 or 8 games last year before the wheels fell off the entire offense and everyone started trying to do everyone else's job.

You can't say that a rookie will be "good" to "very good" at LT in his first season.

Other high LT draft picks include Robert Gallery (Raiders, #2 overall) and Mike Williams (Bills, #4 overall). Neither of which looked "good to very good" in their rookie season. (Williams eventually got cut)

You cant expect to get a Joe Thomas type rookie just because of where he was drafted.

Typically, if one section of your team (o-line, D-line, LBs, or whatever) sucked the previous year, then the media will all talk like it will be exactly the same this year. (Unless you go out and sign some big name FAs in the off season).

Yea.. based on last season 1-15 record that continues to cloud their vision for the upcoming year.

These "quality expert" outsiders aren't necessarily incorrect based on the stale info they have to work with; it's not unlike trying to daytrade a stock relying on a 10minute data feed delay. By the 6th game however, if they don't change their tune, then maybe there will be some cause for concern.

The media gave the phins way too much love till the 1-15 seaon.

They say it because our Oline isn't very good. Watch tape from last year and see.
