Is our scouting dept really that bad? Is it Bad Luck? Is it bad Coaching? Is it the Miami Nightlife? Is the franchise cursed? Is there something in the water in Miami? PLEASE SOMEONE GIVE ME ANSWERS!!!!!!!!!!

It seems Saban has struck out on:

1) Manny Wright
2) Shelton
3) Culpepper over Brees

He hit on:
1) Carter
2) Will Allen
3) Traylor

A bunch of other folks are somewhere in the middle. You'll note that I didn't list a single draft pick still with the team. I don't think Ronnie Brown has been a hit, but he hasn't been bad so far. Everybody else could still be a hit or a miss as far as I'm concerned.

It seems to me that Nick hasn't been terrible. There is room for improvement, particularly in moving around the draft. There isn't anything here to get really pissed about, though.

AS far as free agency: we scour the bottom of the barrel. Instead of signing impact guys, we let them all sign elsewhere then pick up the left overs.

Finger in the wind

I'll tell you why, ownership of the franchise is responding to fan pressure. This is a fan run franchise, and you can see how well that works.

With the whole Brees/Culpepper thing it was bad luck and bad analysis by team doctors. Had they said Brees' shoulder would heal fast enough, Saban would've gotten him and who knows, maybe we could've swapped places with NO. But there were totally bad decisions. Allen can't even crack this horrible secondary when we really could've used a guy like Marcus McNeill. Shelton was a bad move and we ended up going back to D-Mac which worked well. We didn't bring in Ashworth or Mawae. And we picked up lousy CB's and S's who may be good tacklers but are horrid in pass defense. The Harrington pick IMO was a good one though because under him, we're averaging more points per game than with Culpepper. Likewise with Kevin Carter, Holliday, Traylor, Crowder, Daniels, and Wilkinson.

This team isn't at the point where it makes sense to sign the impact guy. That's what the team that thinks it's no more than 3 players away does.

Going downhill.

Face it, Wanny and Rick ran this show better than it's being run now.

The thing is Saban made a mistake on the biggest FA of all which was not getting Brees insted of DC. Most of the other FA aquisitions aren't that bad. I like that we signed Carter, Traylor, and Holiday because we didn't have any D-linemen before them. The only FA signings i didn't like were DC and L.J. Shelton. DC was coming off a major injury and was not that good before the injury. He had trouble reading defenses as well which was another reason i didn't want to get him. L.J. just flat out sucks and needs to be replaced in a hurry.

Exactly.

IT SURE SEEMS that we don't go after the playmakers.......

Rick did a very good job with the draft save the Minnesota trade and taking Carey over Wilfork. Honestly, none of that was really all that egregious. He didn't do that good a job with FA or trading, though. I honestly think Saban wrote off Spielman too quickly. If he could have relied on him to deal with draft day trading and dealing with the scouting, I think the two of them could have been a very good team. Mueller has not been the sort of GM who has ever impressed me to be honest.

It's ridiculous to suggest Wanny ran anything on the personnel side anywhere close to well. Again, had Rick been in charge of drafting in that era, this team would be much better than it is now.

It never ends, does it? Culpepper puts up numbers about the same as Brees', but Culpepper is a bust because the other guys on the field aren't doing their jobs. Amazing.

Get off it already. They ran this team into the ground, especially in terms of the salary cap. Saban and Mueller are limited in their personnel capabilities because we lack the necessary money.

Damn it, man -- answer the clue phone. Football is not simply a game of statistics. Culpepper stank it up, and that's why he isn't playing right now. It may well be because he isn't 100% yet. I certainly hope so. Still, Brees is CLEARLY at or near 100% and is the sort of leader who has elevated the Saints to a place I'd like the Dolphins to be at. Don't even come at me with the knee/shoulder BS. That was idiotic from the moment the first person ever said it. It ignores the important role that the knee plays in a QB's mechanics, and it doubly ignores the important role it plays for a QB used to running. Go read up on Cunningham's history. He was never the same QB again after a much less substantial knee injury, and it took him YEARS to find a style of play that worked for him again. I hope that isn't Culpepper, but that's the risk Miami took.

If it was a fan run franchise we would have gotten Brees no problem. God knows everyone wanted Brees but we still got Culpepper despite him coming off a career threatening injury and a 6/12 TD/INT ratio. Does that make any sense?
