I was watching the game today, thinking about my disappointment with Ginn and what it's based on.

I asked myself, is it based on his uncrisp route running? On his suspect hands? On his lack of separation? On his lack of intensity? On his meager numbers?

And it hit me. When I separate Ted from his numbers, I see a player I think looks special. I see a player who really rarely drops the ball. A confident player with incredible speed who isn't content with just getting what the defense gives him. I see a player who fights on run plays.

I think Ginn is getting some undue criticism on this site.

I think it's time to consider whether you hate on him because of what he's doing wrong, or because of his meager statistics. Realize that those stats are not as they are because he's dropping 8 passes a game. He is getting open, just look for it. If you watch the game with an eye on Ginn, you see he's getting open. Not the best routes, but he's open.

I just feel like by the time Chad sees him open, he's already too far away for Chad to get the ball to him.

We saw that twice against the Ravens. At least twice. Skipping the ball to him.

Just a little perspective.

I rag on Ted because he is totally unwilling to take a hit to gain the yards after the catch, even if they are necessary to continue a drive. I like Ginn. I believe he can be a special player, based on what I have seen him do when he gets a chance. I'm sure he will get it together, but it is frustrating right now.

(Addition) After reading some other threads, it is also a little frustrating to see Ted making impromptu cuts and sweeps back across the field in an attempt to make a play. Everyone in the NFL is too fast for that to work. It is mainly the reason his numbers are not what they could be on P/K returns. Once you get the ball you must start running toward the end zone, not the sideline.

The thing I don't like about Ginn is, it takes him time to get his speed going. He isn't a guy with a quick burst or a guy who hits top speed right away. I think that hinders him in the NFL

I think he's a speed WR... not a route runner. Speed WRs are a dime a dozen. But true number 1 WRs need to be more than that. Some how Camarillo is out performing Ginn. I know there are plenty of reasons, but every time I see Camarillo catch a ball I wish it was Ted Ginn. It just never is... that's why I'm down on him. I think the same thing when I see Hill make a play in our secondary, I wish it was J. Allen. They're in the same boat for me.

The only time Ginn is open is when the ball is going to another player and the defenders leave him.

Here's why people rag on Ginn - because he's a representative of our frustration from last year. That's it.

If he'd been picked by this regime, no one would have a problem with him. The fact is, he was picked by Cam Cameron and is, unfortunately for him, forever connected with them. So, until he has a huge breakout game and starts catching 5 balls for 100 yards every game, he's going to be ragged on. He's going to be the scapegoat. He's going to be this board's punching bag. Fair or not, he's seen as the last remaining remnant of a 1-15 season and the incompetent regime who brought about that awful time.

This board, without fail, turns to Ginn after every single loss. Think about that...

Exactly...

Exactly... but some on here (CK) have never recognized this fact... Ginn's a long strider... with average burst... and little lateral cut back ability... you couple that with his unwillingness to plant his foot and take it upfield... and you have "disappointment" by his name...

So you rag on him for being unwilling to take a hit to gain yards after the catch but when he tries to make plays happen you don't like that either. I don't think Ginn has a chance of making you happy.

There is nothing wrong with taking less hits in a game especially at Ginns size. All long lasting players take measures to protect themselves against unnecessary abuse, Ginn only made one mistake of running out of bounds when we were trying to run the clock out against SD before getting the first down.

If you were correct on your assessment then Bess would be a All-Pro P/K returner. If Ginn hadn't cut hard left to the sideline on his first K return he would have gained next to nothing but because he did our field position to start the game was awesome.

Players respect players who put it on the line.. when it matters... Ginn had at least two opportunities yesterday to do that... one for a first down... he ran out of bounds... and one for a TD.. again he ran out of bounds... we failed to get the first.... we ended up kicking the FG...

It's a problem....

People can choose to be Ginn fans or not.. and most of these threads turn into one camp or another. In the end it's all about production. He was a high draft pick... no matter what team you root for all high draft picks are heavily scruitinized.

Added to the fact that Camarillo is outplaying him that is enough to get people angry right there.

I've been on this board for a few years now, and the ripping Ginn is getting is no different for any other player. I can't count the number of threads where people say.. a guy is going to be special. That a guy just needs a shot. A chance. Or that a guy needs to develop.

Upto now, the only thing I see Ginn special in is the return game. i blame the trifecta in not putting him in there uptil now.

And in the past few years.. in their rookie years, the only player that comes to mind who truly looks special IMO.. is Chad Henne.

Yes Ginn may need to develop. He needs to get in the return game. They need to game plan for him.

But then.. in his position needs to play harder. I was disappointed he didn't bulk up a little more in the offseason.

But hey.. it is what it is.

I am hoping next year when henne starts we will what he has , when the qb can reach him on the deep routes, next year i hope.......
