Last year everyone including the analyst described how the inept rush defense, poor special teams play, penalties, and turn over margin prevented the Fins from winning games. The draft and the free agent acquisitions made during the offseason make it clear that the front office committed to solving these issues. As the stats below show, we improved in these areas. Further, rookies are contributing significantly, so these numbers will get better!! If the front office gets improvement every year on the top deficiencies, then we will be a very good team. Just not this year.

Stat ............................... 2007 ................ 2008

Rush Defense Rank ............ 32nd ................ 12th !!
Kickoff Coverage Rank ........ 30th ................ _5th
Kickoff Return Rank ............ 29th ................ 23rd
Penalized Offense Rank ....... 14th ................ 12th (lower good)
Penalties Defense Rank ....... _4th ................ 13th
Punt Coverage Rank ........... 22nd ................ 23rd
Punt Return Rank ............... 10th ................ 15th
Turnover Margin Rank ......... 23rd ................ 13th

I definitely agree we've improved but you can't compare an entire season to two games this year.

Agreed, but I am tired of people just complaining without seeing that there is improvement. Some of the fans are blaming BP. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but that clearly not true. He definitely has improved the team. I guess I thought someone had to say it.

Nice positive post, but remember, you are comparing 2 games worth of stats to 16 games worth of stats. You'll need to wait till week 16 to do this same comparison to get a realistic evaluation.

Well so what if hes comparing two games of stats?

All the haters who dont know what rebuilding are are attcking everything there is to attack with no real fact to back anything up.... also after 2 games..

this is = to their logic and it wins.

Where's the Pass defense stats?

These stats are skewed because we couldn't stop the run last year so teams didn't need to throw much which improves that stat. This year so far were playing the run better because teams can throw all day on us so why run more. This directly effects our run defense stats.

Look I agree that overall we're better then last year, we're younger, we have more depth, we have players that look real promising for the future, we have direction and with a couple more FA's and drafts we'll be talking Superbowls not the who to blame crap that every 2nd thread is about.

Stats can be misleading sometimes.

No, it's not equal. Remember if we were 2-0 some people on here would be saying we're a playoff team. It's just typical knee-jerk reactions. In the end we will be what we will be, we just don't know what that will be. You don't win or lose anything meaningful in the first 2 weeks of the season. We'll all just have to wait and see what happens. I think TS and company are better sutied to run the team then Wanny, Saban or Cameron. It may just take some time before everything settles down and this team strats to be efficient and confident.

We had improve but we are having the same result, I hope we can star showing the improvement with some wins

I have no doubt that we will post some wins. The only question is when the first one comes.

This is not true, Miami's run defnse has improved. The Cards threw the ball 26 times Sunday, they ran the ball 31 times for 89 yards. Thier longest run from the LOS was just 13 yards, that happened twice. Of the 89 yards they ran, 26 of those yards came on 2 plays. That would leave 63 yards on 29 carries, that equals 2.1 ypc. That's a pretty low avg. Given the fact that Miami was back on their heels by the end of the first qtr. affraid of every single play fake, I would say Miami's front 7 is quite stout against the run.

I thought I would add a little more to these stats. The first week we played the Jets, Brett threw for 191 yards and 2 TD's and 1 fumble. The Jets ran for 120 yards against us. The Jets last week played the Pats, Brett Favre threw for 181 yards 1 td, 1int, the Jets ran for 104 yards. Now I know some here won't care, but as you can see we held our own against a Jet team that played rather well against one of the best teams in the league with or without Brady.
