Gus had so many passes batted at the line? Do you blame the OL or was it something else like he was staring down his receivers? The guy is 6' 3" we're not talking about Doug Flutie here.

thank yoU!!!!! the man had atleast 2 per game!

might be bad passes as well as oLineman not sqauring and properly engaging thier man getting a pancake or 2

It was a combination of both. The OL getting pushed back into the QB and/or not opening up a passing lane for the QB. Gus also has a nasty habit of staring down his receivers which caused him to hold the ball too long thus getting a number of his passes knocked down.

It is a misconception that a QB's height plays a role in the number of passes knocked down. Most passes knocked down are the result of the OL getting pushed back into the QB and the lack of a passing lane for the QB to get the ball to his receivers forcing him to throw over rather than around or between defenders.

i happened rarely

did you watch the games? If you think Frerotte "rarely" got his passes batted down at the line, I guess you could say that teams "rarely" connected on field goals against us.

I swear people will come up with anything to ***** about if they don't like a guy. I doubt GUs had any more batted passes than the average QB. It's just more noticable when he's your team's QB. Even as big as Rothlisberger is, Manning is, Marino and Elway were, they all had their fair share of batted balls.

If Gus stared down his recievers as much as you make it sound, he would have thrown more than just 13 INTs. I'm not Gus' biggest fan or anything, but I just can't believe some of the things that are brought up.

There is no stat out there that shows how many passes a QB had batted down (that I've seen anyway) but I'm willing to bet that Frerotte had passes batted at the line more than most QB's. You must love Gus because asking an honest question like this is considered b!tching in your book.

not really. GUs had almost 2 passes deflected PER GAME. thats hwy they pick up tall QB and Gus is tall he for some reasons gets them batted down or its the LINE not holding their ground and the penetration of the D line makes the distance closer and doesnt allow the ball to elevate enough by the time it reaches the D line.

btw, what is pancake? i see it often on madden but can't seem to figiure it out. is it when the off linemen gets the d line double teamed

Gus had 16 balls batted at the LOS in a combined 11 different games. Meaning there were 5 games where he did not have one batted. That is not a great stat, but it isn't as bad as it's being blown up to be. There are many more factors that play into the reasoning that just the QB. O-line being pushed back is a big reason. If you look at the NFLs best lines, I'd be willing to bet it will go hand in hand with who had the fewest balls batted. For example: Brady had 7 batted balls and he plays behind one of the best lines in the league. Drew Brees had 11. Trent Green had 12. Rothlisberger had 6 and he is huge and passed alot less than Frerotte and has an exceptional line. Jake Delhomme had 15 batted down. Hasselbeck 8. Carson Palmer had 12....etc etc etc.

Oh my God. LOL. I must love Gus because I'm defending him a little? I hate alot of QBs in the NFL, but would defend them if something is blown out of proportion. Just because I don't jump through hoops to agree with you doesn't mean I "love" anyone. :rolleyes2

You're right, it has a lot to do with the line being pushed back. If everyone would remember correctly, Gus had a lot of pressure in his face pretty consistently. Gus didn't get sacked often, but some of the credit for that can go to Gus veteran smarts and being able to get rid of the ball.

All this being said, I know we need a new QB. But why do people constantly dig up crap to pin blame on someone? Gus is not great by any means, but he is the best QB the Dolphins have had since #13 retired.
