Let me start this by saying I am not a Beck or Henne supporter. I am just a fin fan praying we FINALLY have a qb.

If the front office had such little faith in Beck and thought Henne was the answer, don't you think they would have reached for him at 32? Don't you think they had to assume their were other teams that needed qb's and might select their "savior"? Teams like Carolina come to mind, who seem they could have used a qb.

So essentially because we got lucky and a qb we were interested in lasted until the 57th pick, it means Beck should be looking for a job soon.

What if we someone like Carolina got Henne. We probably wouldn't have selected a qb until the later rounds, if at all. Then these same posters would be saying, "wow, Bill must love Beck. We are set for the next 10 years at qb!!!"

Competition at any position isn't a bad thing. Especially QB. Best case scenario is they both play great and we have a very good back up or very good trade bait. I will take either.

Some people just plain don't plain like John Beck. Honestly, I think a competition between Beck and Henne will be fun. It will make both of these guys bring their A games, and that's a good thing!

I don't like that we drafted Henne, I really don't think he has what it takes to be an NFL qb. I like the fact that Parcells and Co. are trying to right the ship though. I just with the QB we got at 57 was Brian Brohm.

I just hope they play the best QB...I don't care if it's McKown, Beck, Henne, or Joe Schmoo.

No kidding,

May the best QB lead our team... I dont care who it is as long as it gets us wins.

Henne wasn't drafted at 32 because Merling was such a value that BP couldn't pass on him. Otherwise, Henne would have been taken at 32, IMO.

If no QB was selected until, say the 4th, maybe Josh Johnson, I would have said that BP thinks Beck has a real shot to develop into our starting QB. By taking Henne in the 2nd with lots of holes on both sides of the ball, says QB is a pressing need that had to get answered now. (and I can't disagree) And before someone asks why they didn't draft Ryan, it's because they didn't think him worthy of the #1 overall.

I'm sure if Beck is lights-out and Henne/McCown are bad in preseason, Beck could wind up as the starter. But if it's anywhere close to even, Beck is going to lose.

Basically YES this is the end of Beck.

This coming from an unbaised poster.

I dont even think its fair to Chad that we have to go thru this charade of a QB competition.

This is going to be the most interesting preseason in Miami Dolphins history.

I think it's fair. Chad should have to earn his job like everyone else. Do I think Henne can be the starter this year? Absolutely. However, I don't want too see this job handed to him. Between Beck and Henne, I want the best man to win.

Look at it this way:

Would you rather have John Beck, Josh McCown, and Chad Henne battling for the starting QB job or a concussed Trent Green, Cleo Lemon, and John Beck? The former is an upgrade over the latter, right?

Maybe not.

The questions are:
1. Is Beck with 4 starts under his belt is better than rookie Beck?
2. Is Henne an upgrade over Lemon?
3. Is McCown -- who played in just 9 games with the Raiders last year due to injuries -- better than Green?

The answer to No. 1 is clearly yes.

It gets fuzzy at #2. Will Henne be better than Lemon? Almost certainly. Is he, right now, better prepared to play in the NFL than Lemon? Probably not.

And I'd say that when vertical, Green is head-and-shoulders (or head-and-knees) better than McCown. But given that McCown is physically able to put on the pads and Green isn't, I'd call this one a wash.

Soooo...will the Dolphins be better at quarterback in '08 than they were in '07?

Absolutely. And the reason has nothing to do with the quarterbacks. The offensive line will be dramatically improved over 2007, meaning whoever lines up under center will be better than 2007.
