Hear me out here. Just a few things I'm curious of.

1. Standard hierarchical set up of owner picking GM who picks his coach, who picks his coordinators whom together pick their QB. Not Miami, we seem to have a proverbial merry go round almost every year where nobody knows what the **** is going on.

2. Drafting a QB with attacking weapons, usually a genuine #1 WR or big TE. We draft our QB and in his first season don't give him anything to work with. We then give him a speed threat with low catch radius and still no genuine TE alternative. Why are we not QB friendly in this regard ? I'm thinking of Indy not just drafting Luck but then safeguarding it even further by drafting his favourite receiver out of college to boot. Why has Tannehill just finished his 3rd year with us without having the two easiest throwing options in big WR or big TE ? Why haven't we made things more comfortable ?

3. The OL. On a similar theme to point 2. You invest in first round young QB, the first thing you do is safeguard his health. Not us. We've got the guy killed for 3 consecutive years and still don't seem to have a damn clue. Why do other teams find it easy protecting their guy with makeshift late round picks and yet we consistently have to look to sort out the OL ? How hard can this **** really be ?

4. Linebacker play. I look around the league and one consistency of strong defensive teams is linebacker play, yet here we are mucking around with outside guys on the inside, 3-4 guys in the 4-3, putting square pegs in round holes relentlessly. Why can't we fix this **** ?

Just a a few thoughts I've been having and am interested in your responses. I just don't understand why Miami has to always ignore conventional wisdom and do the alternative. It doesn't make sense.

On #1 I thought we did that with Parcells several years ago. It didn't work out.
#2 and #3 were addressed in the draft with James and Landry. Landry not a true #1 but was all that was available at the time. Still need a true #1
Not sure what they are doing on #4

Most of it is true because we have an idiot clamoring as a HC and a clown masquerading the past GM

Merry Go-Round at the HC and GM positions.

Hickey appears to be a keeper at GM, Philbin appears to be a seatwarmer at best.

Isn't Tampa running on Hickey's drafts?

No he was just the guy who fetched coffee and learned from the guy who put that juggernaut team together. I'm a little worried that he may have been paying attention to his mentor.

This is mostly on coach Philbin, you see as soon as Brandon Marshall was traded in 2012, he was asked what his was his plan for a number one reciever.
His answer, he doesn't believe in a number one receiver. The guy thinks he can make chicken salad outta chicken ****.

I had another post that addresses Hickey's challenges. I thought he did a relatively good job this year, but I think the player personnel problems run deeper than most realize or are willing to admit.

1. Hickey all but ignored the linebacker position in the draft and free agency. I agree that Ireland hamstrung him with ridiculous contracts with Ellerbe and Wheeler, but I think more competition could have been found beyond the lower round additions of Tripp and undrafted addition of McCain.

2. How long has it been since the Dolphins had a mismatch advantage at TE? Randy McMichael maybe? For some reason, our scouting department never seems to hit on a TE prospect, or someone like Parcels underestimates draft value on the position (I'm still pissed that we didn't snag Jimmy Graham!)

3. I actually think Hickey has a good start on the offensive line problem. Satele was a solid grab late in free agency. I think part of the problem is the coaching staff having misplaced love for certain players. STOP TRYING TO FIND A STARTING POSITION FOR DALLAS THOMAS! He might not even be second string.

4. Here is Hickey's main problem. The supposed strength of the team...the defensive line...isn't as good as advertised. I would argue that the best performer on the unit this year was Earl Mitchell. Starks for some reason didn't play up to his usual standard. Odrick will probably command more on the market than he is really worth. Vernon and Wake disappeared for long stretches of games and Wake, in particular, struggled to set the edge against the run. I honestly don't believe Jordan is a defensive end. He should be moved to linebacker. At least Shelby and now Fede appear to be good young pieces.

Err, there are plenty of teams that have the owner pick the coach, rather than the GM. The idea that the owner isn't involved in the decision to hire the head coach is weird and I'm not sure why Dolphins fans think that every other team does it one specific way that they don't actually all do it.

Nice post bro. I think the constant shuffling on linebackers in and out didn't help back up the defensive line either. I really like Jenkins. I am not sold that Misi can stay healthy enough to be a MLB. If we can improve our linebackers and add depth there I think that will help the line out a lot.

I believe Tampa has a Super Bowl win that we can all remember watching live!

Yes. He was a scout. One of many scouts. He became a FO assistant in 2011. 9 years after that SB win.
The draft classes he assisted on have not been around for long enough, except for the first one (allowing 3 years before we see the value of them), but it isn't looking great IMO. But again, he was just an assistant.

Speaking of surrounding your young QB with talent--

Sure would have been nice to have drafted T.Y. Hilton in the 3rd round of the 2012 draft instead of Egnew. But we didn't, thanks to the genius of Ireland and all of that amazing football knowledge he acquired as Parcell's valet or whatever the hell he was.

Say what you want about the guy but this is by far the best Dolphins offense in a long time. The last 10 years have been absolutely awful to watch. This team didn't do jack*** with Chris Chambers or Brandon Marshall, and they were both legit #1 guys.
