I know this question has probably been asked before but in case it hasn't...

Why doesn't he get a chance to start?

One thing I find interesting this year is Bart Scott of the Ravens "came out of nowhere."

He played special teams and was always making plays, then he backs up Ray Lewis and plays well enough that Baltimore made room for him in the offseason. Now at the age of 27 he is finally getting the start and is yet another great playmaker on that team.

I look at Bell and I see someone who is a special teams stud. But then when he is on the field in special packages he is always making plays for us. I remember when we were ravaged by injuries in 2004, he came up big. Last year he was a sack machine leading all DB in sacks despite only being on in special dime and nickel packages. This year he has made a few plays, I recall at least one sack and one forced fumble. So why doesn't he get a shot to start over our less than adequete safties.

Is this an oversight of talent like the Bart Scott situation or is there something he is missing such as basic coverage skills?

i agree 1000%....he should be playing. the mans a spark of fire for our specialteams....his motor {like wes} goes 100mph constantly....i love his enthusiasim and is always making plays...put him in there, let him drive guys into the ground

Good post, good question. Don't know the answer, seems like a logical choice to put him in the way our safeties have struggled.

Doesn't make sense why he's not starting, he outplays everyone in our defensive backfield every time he gets on the field. Bell and Jason Allen should be our starting safeties. I WANT JASON ALLEN TO START PLAYING SAFETY, did you hear me Coach Saban?

IMO, this is decision by Saban is one of the "Wanny Decisions" he/the organization is still making.

There is no way in hell Saban can sit here and tell me that Travares Tillman and Renaldo Hill are clearly more skilled, make more plays, and know the defense better than Bell.

and beside that, we know Tillman has made plays....for the other team. But has Renaldo Hill even been on the field??? [sarcasm] This guy makes Donnie Spragan look like Zach.

There is no doubt Bell should be starting along with Jason Allen. All Bell does when he gets in the game is make plays.

This is truly one of the travesties surrounding this team. Hill has been very good in run support, and his knowledge of Saban's system can't be taken lightly especially at the safety position, but why in the hell is Tillman back there? That guy is hot garbage. Bell should replace him in the lineup immediately then Allen should displace Hill. Except for the solid play of Goodman, W. Allen (at times), and Bell, the rest of our secondary sucks. This includes Travis Daniels who is clearly not 100% and getting beaten like he stole something.

bell does well in his role... hes never been strong in deep coverage though... but hes good at rushing the passer from a DB spot or underneath man coverage on a TE or a RB...

he plays his role well... but dont think just cause you see him get a few sacks and pressure QBs that hed play great as a starting safety with all the duties that come with that... dont forget reggie howard was a great blitzing CB, that didn't make him any good in any other aspect of the CB position...

im not taking anything away from bell, but seeing him in the backfield is just fine, that doesn't mean hes gonna be better than the other guys at coverage duties...

Bell has never been a starter because every time he plays significant minutes he gets injured. Would you rather have a dime corner for a year or a starting saftey for three games?

there must be something that we dont see in practise or something thats keeping him on the bench.... i know hes great and blitzing and a hell of an athlete but i have heard that his cover skills are pretty bad....he misses assignments and bit on the play action too much

That guy can make pays he was every wear last week i really think we should start him and Noby/
he had a int vs the pats last year and he forced the game winning fumble vs the chargers

...but I'll admit I can't wait for the day we replace tillman.
