Everyone is talking about the 35 million guarenteed. With Matt Ryan, Mcfadden, J Long, C Long, Ellis, all have been projected #1 overall. If everyone is still familiar with the Quinn effect. A potential #1 pick slips to the 20's, losing at least 15 million. We should try and sign the player that is willing to A.Sign B. not be greedy. If Mcfadden for example demands 35 million if taken #1 overall, so we don't draft him. He falls to #5 and gets 15 million. Anyone see where I am going. Maybe we can find a player that will not demand everything.

I can't imagine Ryan, the Longs, or Dorsey taking such a deal. I do, however, think it would be wise to take advantage of being the only team able to negotiate with a pick and use a Billy Beane moneyball-type strategy and offer someone like Sedrick Ellis the opportunity to be the #1 pick if he'll sign a contract for 5 or 6 pick money (This assumes he's likely to go in picks 8-10, I understand his stock is climbing and this scenario might not be likely soon).

If the sweet spot for talent to contract ratio is about 16, we offer a guy who would go 18 to 20 a jump in pay to #12 to 14 levels and the prestige that goes along with being the first overall pick. If it's 10, we offer the 12 pick 8 pick type money. Miami doesn't get saddled with a ridiculous contract and the pick makes more than he otherwise would've. The only people that may not be on board is the NFLPA (but I don't think it's against any rules) and the agents who think their skill is tied to how much they outperform the draft slot of their client.

Chris seems like a humble guy and we will probably have him signed going into Draft Day. That is, unless we get a great trade offer at the last second.

The overall #1 pick is pretty much gauranteed $35 million....it has nothing to do with being gready or a guy asking for too much....this is pretty much gauranteed under the NFLPA bargaining agreement, so even if we only wanted to offer say $20 million, the rules pretty much dictate that is what he will get.

The draft will continue to cripple the bad teams instead of helping them like it was designed to do, if someone doesnt cap out these #1 overall picks contracts.

Its the main reason we cant trae the pick now, nobody wants to shell out the money.
