So I was reading the thread about the scrimmage the other night at Dolphins Stadium. The debate came down to who caught more passes McMike or WELKER, then WELKER returns the punt for a TD?!?! Why do people continually talk this freaking non-sense about 1) That he's even the 4th receiver (He's 3rd, we all know it, yes I saw the depth chart, but I also heard what Saban said about depth charts) and 2) That there's even a remote possibility that welker gets cut?!??!?!?!?!

It just boggles my mind that anyone can think Welker is not making the team. It was funny, last year everyone kept talking all this crap about how Boston would beat Welker down, and that Boston was the next great thing at receiver, and that Welker didn't stand a chance. Now same ones are talking this crap about Vick, Hagan, and Cambell...First of all it will be a miracle if Vick makes it through the next few weeks without getting in trouble with the team or the law, Hagan and Cambell never were anything to anyone, why do you think they got traded around. It's funny though, same one that kept thinking how great Boston would be, keep doubting Wes. Yet he quietly had over 400yds in rec last year...as a third wide receiver!

I'm tired of it, seriously you guys need to pick on someone else...not one of the stand up guys of this team.

Im with you on welker making this team but hagan was never traded around he is a rookie out of ASU and broke alot of pac 10 records in recieving the kid is going to be a beast. However Wes is the man and he will defently make this team no way Saban cuts a guy who played hurt and made big plays like Wes did last season. The guy might be small but he has the heart and intensity to play like he is 6'6.:dolphins: :dolphins: :dolphins: Go Dolphins!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think there is any way Welker gets cut. Just too valuable. Excellent return guy, very good slot receiver(reminds me of W. Chrebet), decent WR backup, plus he can be an emergency punter or kicker.
It doesnt matter whether Vick lands a spot on the team or not, Saban will find a way to keep Welker on.

I think Welker will have a significant part to play this season, but it's not fair to say that it will be a 'miracle' if Vick gets to the season opener without getting into trouble. He's done nothing but work hard since we brought him in to compete!!

Saban didn't care for those many muffs and non returns that pinned us deep. I remember several times I had to cuss at him last year. He better make it as a WR because I doubt he impressed Saban like he did Wanny with his returns. That is when he got one right. I do like him as a slot WR even though crossing routes is the only thing he seems to be able to be effective with. BTW nobody is safe with all the WR's SABAN brought in except for Chris and Marty. If Welker was as good as you thinkl then Saban would have said I'm not looking to replace Marty,Wes, or Chris I want people to complement them. But since he only said that about Marty and Chris Welker better get his S*** together and have a good preseason because I haven't seen him in any WR report while I here Vick makes amazing catches every day, Hagan looks good, and about 4 others but never anything about Wes..

Ok here it is for everyone...Welker will make the team. And welker will contribute. BUT he will see the field less...Why? Simple:

Chambers: Last year it's easy to see why chambers flourished if you watch how the coaches were using him. In the first half he was almost always on the outside AND he was running a lot of long routes. This didn't work out so well. So about mid season they started switching him around and even putting him into the slot. This really opened up his game and allowed him to take advantage of better matchups...So what does this mean?

When we go into the three WR set Booker and chambers will be on the outside with welker in the slot. Gives a lot of flexibilty and options. Welker is excellent in the slot because he's quick and can run through the trash at full speed. That right there is his saving grace...he has the talent to be able to track other people and see the best way to run around them at top speed. This and his great hands make him an excellent slot receiver.

Now when we want to mix it up we will switch chambers into the slot. Now welker is a great slot guy, but he doesn't have the size or the speed to line up outside...so who do we use? Why new rookie derek Hagan. He has size, ability, and speed! Perfect! But is he a great slot guy? prolly not because he doesn't fit the fold we are trying to get at the position... can he work and be productive there? yes..but will he be better on the outside? YES!

People need to realize the slot position guy will be determined by where we want to line up chambers. From that we will fill guys in accordinly. Currently the coaches are preparing hagan to back-up booker and eventually replace him which is an excellent idea.

Now the campbell and Vick debates are quite different because both are trying to log in time at welkers slot position in the standard three receiver set. Campbell adds the ability to stretch the field, but welker beats him out in his ability to run the underneathe stuff. Vick needs to finish learning the offense and has to have a great pre-season before he is even mentioned in this conversation... Not to mention if he does make the team he will most likely be learning one of the outside positions because of his size 6' 216 lbs.

So basically Welker needs only to beat out Campbell...which he can do.

Careful you may encouraged that white supremist that made that on thread a while back to come out of his world to preach to us. But no it is because he played like crap last year and you never hear anything about him in any camp report. He lost stock in his returning last year.

What the thread about how the white man is the minority now and we need to act quickly? Or that Welkers stock has dropped? If it's the former I beleive he may have got a lifetime ban with his only post and don't know the name. If it's the latter then it is just my observations.

He's white?!.....

Welker makes the team ... no brainer. Third receiver when (on a per play) basis we need a slot receiver. Again no brainer. Hagan is third when split out. And Vick goes in and out as an alternative to both.

Wes also keeps his punt return position but probably gives up some of his KR duties.

I disagree with G-force that Saban is looking elsewhere for a starting PR. A back-up in Vick ...of course.

But this whole thing about creating a conflict between our players is a bit counter-productive as a fan .. We are Dolfans! Not Vickfans or Welkfans. Whoever Saban chooses we need to support and quit drawing up battle lines between us just for the sake of argument.

Go Fins!

welker is a real player, he does not cry or complain he gets paid the vet minimum and just busts his butt unlike manny wright.

Welker has consistently put up good PR numbers...His KR number however have been either middle of the pack or just below that. I would not be surprised at all if Nick puts someone else on KR.

However...ST's last year was a collection of SCRUBS! This year with our improved depth we will have more talented atheletes this year so hopefully that will also help us out in our return game...
