Fine. Let him get released in 2-3 years with nothing team wise to show for it and then we wind up getting nothing in return. Real smart move. NOT
I think you are alone in the boat on this one.AtlantaPhin said:I think you've been hitting to much of that blunt with Ricky
If I am that's a real shame. Yeah let's keep 59 million in tact for a defense that has no chance of even sniffing the playoffs for the next few years.Nublar7 said:I think you are alone in the boat on this one.
AtlantaPhin said:Yeah Preda they are. At least I have some common sense here unlike you. You're right let's keep this defense in tact when we have no chance of doing anything for 2-3 years when we can start building for the future by getting rid of overpaid players who never produced anyway in the clutch . My god what was I thinking?
Football is not baseball. Trading Taylor would rank right up there with giving Wanny a contract extension...NO FREAKING WAY!!!!!!AtlantaPhin said:Trade Jason Taylor to a team that thinks their a pass rusher away from going to the Bowl for a 1st round pick!! You say I'm crazy, why? This team is at least 2-3 years away from doing anything and we need to start building now plus start getting rid of cap space to sign free agents. 2-3 years from now Miami will be asking JT to take a serious pay cut or flat out release him anyway.
While we're at it I'd dump Seau and Madison for as many picks as possible. Junior deserves a chance to go to a winner and I'm thinking it's a forgone conclusion Madison gets released in the offseason for cap reasons so why not get something for all of them now? I just don't understand why football GM's don't take this approach the way baseball GM's do? Let's get some picks and free up some cash for the future!!!
If it gets us some good picks and cap relief in 2-3 years I'm all in favor unlike you who wants to settle for mediocrity foreverPredaphin34 said:boy you do have common sense, let's just trade Zach Thomas while we're at it, he's older than JT...how's that for common sense???
Dude it was heavily reported this past offseason that Miami was already thinking of releasing Madison. My point was to trade him before he gets released and we get nothing in return. Madison did restructure big time so the cap hit wouldn't be as severe. I think you are a little confused here. Surtain is going nowhere, Madison is as good as gone this next offseason if Poole continues to improve. You can come at me all you want as I encourage good debate but at least have a clue what you're talking aboutunifiedtheory said:Football is not baseball. Clear cap space to sign free agents? If we traded Taylor we would have to overpay for a free agent defensive end because our starters would be Dave Bowens and an ancient Jay Williams.
No one will trade picks for Seau...to old and too high a cap number.
Madison is not going anywhere in the off-season. Releasing him would be a huge cap hit. If anyone in the secondary is walking or getting traded it will be Surtain.
Actually, a trade accelerates all a players uncharged cap money into the current year...doesnt matter if its before or after June 1. Cutting a player outright after June 1 saves cap money in the current year but the remainder comes due the following year. Trading either Madison or Taylor would be impossible this year.phinphanphrommi said:Trading people past June 1 accellerates their cap hit for their signing bonus. We'd be in a serious hole next year... that'd make it kinda hard to start building.
Restructuring almost always makes the cap hit for releasing or trading a player MORE severe, not less. Base salary, which doesnt count against the cap if the player is cut or traded, is moved into signing bonus...which IS counted against the capAtlantaPhin said:Dude it was heavily reported this past offseason that Miami was already thinking of releasing Madison. I'm very aware of that but in lieu of recouping draft picks who would obvioulsy be cheaper than our current high priced roster it would balance itself out in 2-3 years. The point I'm trying to make which I haven't stated is we are already in cap hell with our current team and either we stay that way and make the same mistake Frisco did this year and let players go with nothing in return or we trade them, take the cap hit which we're going to already but at least have some picks to show for it. Furthermore by trading them, we take the bonus hit but not the their salary included next year for the next team, not us.yankeehillbilly said:Restructuring almost always makes the cap hit for releasing or trading a player MORE severe, not less.
