I always thought Dennis Dixon offered a bit of upside as and athletic qb who can move in the pocket and deliver a decent ball. Not great in his replacement starts as a rookie, but not horrible either. I just don't get the appeal of Garrard who basically had almost nobody even looking at him when he was released by the Jags and the fins go out and sign him? Worst case Dixon would have been the backup to Moore for a lot less money... Best case a quick release mobile qb who may be better suited in a west coast offense rather than the vertical passing game the steelers run.

Why Garrard in the first place............

I thought the samething but in a WCO you have to be accurate and I don't think that fits Dixon well. Don't get me wrong I like Dixon and hoped he would get a look, not really a fan of Gerrard either putting my support behind Moore. Plus I'm hopeful we land Tanehill, Weeded, or Cousins.

Ireland has a mancrush on Gerrard... simple truth to the story

People, one year ago Garrard was an all-pro QB with 23TDs and a 90% QBR. He sat out 2011 due to injury.

In that same year Manning threw for 33TDs and had a 91% QBR. He sat out 2011 due to injury.

Garrard is 34 years old.

Manning is 35 years old.

Garrard had a slipped disk.

Manning had 4 neck operations.

Garrard signed for 1 year 3.5 mill.

Manning signed for 5 years 96 mill.

Garrard is a VERY good player and VERY capable of starting and running an NFL offence.

Notice i did not compare any stats to Dixon. He may offer some potential but has not proven anything.

Hence our got GM made a wise move to solidify the position in the short term.

You pretty much hit it on the head as far as I'm concerned. There is a real lack of respect for David Garrard on here and the man is not a bad QB. Miami still needs to compete in 2012 and David Garrard, like it or not, gives us a better chance to compete. Still we need to draft a QB because hell we have 2 QB's on 1 year deals and Pat Devlin . . . but David Garrard consistently has more TD's than INT's, he is an accurate QB, he helped keep the Jags in the playoff race for year w/o having any big time weapons at WR and he has the big playoff win that you would like to see from your QB.

He's a better QB than Matt Flynn and Alex Smith, but both of those guys are still young and improving while Garrard's best days are probably behind him. Guess we'll see.

This....

Accuracy is the key to the WCO QB spot. The routes are pure timing. Also a quick release is a must, as much of the offense is 3 step drop and release the ball. Dixon doesn't have read defenses nearly well enough and has a slow release time to go along with that inaccuracy.

On the other hand, Garrard, while not an inaccurate passer, has a slow wind-up release...

MMoore is somewhere in between and accuracy would be his least best attribute, but not a major detriment to being successful in the WCO...

I would've went with Josh Johnson who just signed with the 49ers over Garrard.

When Jim Harbaugh became coach in the NFL, it was only a matter of time before Josh Johnson followed him. It's possible they would have traded for him last year had the lockout not been in effect.

I see a lot of potential with Josh Johnson and if he learned under harbaugh he should be a well rounded QB and would've been a better option than Garrard or Dixon. I see him overtaking Smith as QB for the 49ers.

You have your "black" Jacksonville Jaguar QB's mixed up.
