Can Pennington and Ginn work together?

[T]he question I have, in all honesty, is how Ted Ginn Jr. and Pennington can bridge the divide between their playing styles and God-given gifts to make things work between the team's No. 1 receiver and starting quarterback?

I ask because I simply don't think these two guys are well-suited for one another.

Ginn is a developing player but we all know his strengths are speed and stretching the field. He is a long-strider who seems most comfortable running 9 routes and deep posts and skinny posts. He needs to go down the field in a straight line, outrun people, and get the ball thrown over the top of the defense.

Pennington, meanwhile, is a quarterback more comfortable working with his receivers on timing. He wants to know the ins and outs of their route-running so he can anticipate them coming out of their breaks and have the ball delivered to them as they come clear.

The fact is a deep sideline pass of 17 yards typically requires a QB to throw it about 24 yards on a line. Pennington can do it, but the ball doesn't really hum out there. I sails sometimes. So he prefers working the short middle of the field.

Pennington is not a quarterback you'll see throwing the ball 30, 40 or 60 yards down the sideline to the receiver. Those throws also require a strong arm. Pennington relies on the receiver catching it between 5 and 15 yards downfield then delivering YAC (yards after catch) if there is to be a big play.

Ginn, still learning to run precise routes, isn't a great timing receiver. He also isn't built for attacking the middle of a defense a lot, although he'll gladly do it if asked. Again, he is about speed and running by folks.

So how can a QB that relies on short passes and timing and a receiver that is best suited for getting behind a defense before he gets the ball mesh?

So far they have not. Pennington has completed two passes to Ginn this season. They were both of the short variety and Ginn didn't turn them into long gains because they came in traffic.

It seems to me like an obvious problem for the Dolphins. The solution?

Either Ginn has to drastically adjust his game and accept running short, precise routes in the middle of the field. Or the Dolphins need a stronger-armed quarterback that can fire over the top of the defense. Doesn't seem like rocket science to me.

but i think your gonna get a spanking from a mod for posting whole article thats a no no

In other breaking news; Water is wet. Just in from the wire....Fire is hot.

Can Ginn be used to his fullest? Probably not. Can they find a way to use him? Certainly. That, boys and girls, is what we big kids call "Coaching". I hope we see some of that this week.

This is part of the reason I believe Henne should start sooner than later. He needs to develope a relationship with Ginn, Bess, Cam and Hagen. That way we can see how Henne is doing and if there needs to be a major overhaul of the Wr core not just adding one through FA.

Henne seemed to find Ginn open on his one and only drive last week, times that by 8 more drives and maybe we have Ginn catching 5 balls for 80 yards and improving. Every catch gives him the opportunity to break the big one.

If we lose to NE this weekend I really won't see any point in waiting any longer on Henne. Pennington was brought in to further our teams developement sooner so we could learn to win and if were not winning with him then what's the point of continuing to start him over Henne.

Henne won't be broken just cause we struggle alittle, if that was the case Pennington will be found shaking and crying naked in the shower soon repeating to himself " I'm in my happy place, I'm in my happy place".

This article is bull. Coles and Moss didnt have a problem working with pennington, so why is ginn? Its because 1) the O-line needs to give him more time, which should come when they gel. and 2) They need better playcalling. Yes Im talking to you HENNING!

Everyone is having trouble with Penny, not just Ginn. How do you explain Ginn going a whole game without touching the ball, and then getting 2 catches immediately (1 called back) when Henne comes in. Penny had issues last year with the Jets. I don't care about a 68% completion rate when you are going 5 yards a pop. In 06, he had a top 5 D and the #1 running game, so the Jets carried his noodle arm, not the other way around. His arm has been, is, and always will be an issue. There is just no way around that glaring fact!

Your the bird. Pennington is the PERFECT QB for this team, no mater how much you want to deny it. Yes, Pennington has a piss poor arm. but you dont need a Jamarcus Russel arm to succeed in the NFL. You need to have smarts and know how to play the game, which Pennington has. When our O-line gives pennington more time and TGJ gets more seperation from the DBs, then you'll see pennington perform as expected.

BTW, Pennington WAS(Key Word) a Jet. Now he IS a Dolphin. Get over it.
