He is struggling isn't he? Rhetorical question Farley (Mr.Wood****) Its been printed in more than one paper that sacks are coming from the left side and that he and Smiley both are giving them up way to often.

QB's are struggling for a reason. I don't know, maybe life's easier if I ignored it like so many else apparently are.

Usually, when an offensive lineman's name isn't being called or mentioned, that is suppose to be a good thing. lol They don't get any attention untill a replay or a very noticeable hole they created or block made, which usually takes more than one linemen to do.

The times they have mentioned Jake Long in training camp is when they do interview's and other player's talk about him, or when he has struggled/defender blew past by him.

It would be a good thing but the writers are mentioning it, the Dolphins fans aren't.

The biggest knock on him is what he's struggling with, and its a major concern for me. Especially when I know Vernon Carey can play LT. Carey right now is the best player on our football team based on the 2007 season and 2008 training camp.

We'll see, maybe its just an issue of the defense having a read on the offense, like usually happens. I am not ready to declare him a bust or anything before he plays a game. Thats foolish. I am worried and I am not afraid to admit it.

I'm expecting Long to struggle in his first year against the pass rush but I think that he'll be very good for blocking the run.

If Jake Long doesn't make the Pro Bowl, he is a bit of a disappointment. Joe Thomas made it, and was picked third overall.

To be honest I think the 'struggles' that have been reported are not in any way out of the ordinary for a rookie adjusting to the speed of the game, especially early in camp. Personnel is changing all the time as they experiment with different combinations and we all know what chemistry means to the OL... Especially a young group. I have not read anywhere where it says that he is embarrassing or being outclassed out there. I think this is a rookie very early in his first camp...

I think there is a reason that the bulk of the reporting or discussion has focused on the QB's... Let's face it when there is talk of bringing in Quincy Carter... An arena league QB to compete or push our guys you better be worried, even if it is only a smokescreen to get our guys to compete harder... Obviously the FO thinks these guys need a push... Not a good sign.

Also don't forget what these reports mean 'by default'... When all you hear is about how good Ricky is and how he is tearing it up some credit has to go to the OL for givin him a little space... Next when I read that The QB's are hanging on to the ball too long... Giving up sacks... By default you have to again give a little credit to the OL and DB's as these are largely coverage sacks and an OL cannot be expected to hold all day for the QB to release downfield...

I think the greatest assesssments this early in camp are made by the guys that see it up close... The FO... Quite simply the talk is about Glenn and recently Quincy Carter.. SHows me they are concerned about the WR's and QB's... I think LeCharles is still sittin' out there and with our cap space if there were serious concerns about Smiley or Long I think there would be more action... Concerned? Maybe.. Worried? WAY too early for that... IMO.

Joe Thomas made it to the Pro Bowl because Jonothan Ogden and Jason Peters pulled out.

I'm worried as well. I have no doubts that the line will be one of the most dominating run blocking units. Its pass protection thats been the major issue through recent years. Last year teams were shredding through the line with eight in the box.
Jake Long was a great pick but theres no doubt he will struggle against speed rushers, at least at first. I think over time he'll grow into his position though. Smiley i'm not so sure is too much of an upgrade over Hadnot. Hopefully he'll be a more consistant run blocker but his pass blocking is mediocre at best. I'm not sure what to think of Satele yet. I know he has all the potential but I don't like hearing that Jason Ferguson has been dominating him. I'm not optimistic at all about who will start at RG. It'll either be a rookie or a average at best vet coming off of injury in McKinney. Add in huge question mark at QB and there are plenty of reasons to be worried.

He is being tested. I wouldnt have it any other way. Plus the entire line is having troubles as witnessed by articles stating the middle has given up way too much. I think the defense is going to be a hell of a lot better this year and the coaches are putting our young OL to the test.

Also they want to pressure Beck and the QB's. I also noticed we have been passing the ball more than run so isnt the obvious sticking out here?

Me not worried.

What is it with people and camp reports? One report says Long is dominating one day, another report says he's struggling another day and people start panic. The same with Ginn and Beck. Why dont people wait until we ALL can actually see these players playing in games to judge how well or how poorly they are playing, and their chances of making the team or starting are.

And he was a huge part of that.

I wasn't aware of that, but he still managed to make it over others. Like Vernon Carey.
he was a big part but guys like braylon edwards k2 jamal lewis also had a huge effect
