Why he might succeed: The biggest thing Sparano has going for him is that expectations are incredibly low after Cam Cameron coached the Dolphins to a 1-15 record. That will help because it's going to take time to overhaul a roster like Miami's. Sparano's a disciple of Parcells and he's going to try to win with good defense and a running game. If the Dolphins can get running backs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams healthy, there's hope. Sparano showed in Dallas he can work wonders with an offensive line and new offensive coordinator Dan Henning helped the Carolina Panthers reach the Super Bowl with an aging Stephen Davis running behind mediocre talent up front.

Why he might fail:
The Dolphins don't have a quarterback and there's no guarantee that Brown or Williams can stay healthy enough to carry this offense. Parcells will be very aggressive and the Dolphins will make lots of changes. But it's going to take more than one offseason to bring this roster up to Parcells' standards. The problem with that is Parcells never has been known for having a lot of patience.

What do you think about this assumption?

I think they are underestimating a couple of great football minds who have 40 million dollars of cap room, and a load of early draft picks..

Sparano, Parcells and Ireland inherited the worst team in the NFL. This team has become mediocre in it's best years recently and descended to the NFL worst in 2007. They are doing what needs to be done, gut the whole team and create a new culture. They will succeed in their efforts, I am quite optimistic of this. I already like their approach, no more bandages. Fresh start, we will be back!!

Could not agree more.

I think Sparano will do a good job...he's a get dirty kind of coach and will get the most out of his players.....Parcells will bring in some young free agents and use his draft pick well.....we'll be back in the playoffs in 2 years.

Ozzy rules!!

That's funny he mentions there's no guarantee about Brown and Williams staying healthy. I didn't know there was a guarantee anyone stayed healthy. I guess some of these guys aren't playing "football" and are impervious to injury.

Sparano could also fail if he doesn't put together a good front 7 to stop the run.

i will be honest didnt like the hire so my expectations for our oline coach that is now a head coach are low, but i do expect him to get us in the playoffs withing two years at least by year 3. imo. i dont see him failing as long as parcells has his finger prints on this team

He can't fail because of the QB situation because he never created it, now if over the next couple of years were in the same sinking ship that's different because then he's never fixed the leak. I believe he's in a winning situation because of the cap space and BP will take most of the heat for not turning things around. But they will turn this around and we will be great once again we just need to be patient and enjoy the ride.

Since we are on the bottom there is no where else to go but up. The real question is just how far up the ladder we will get and how long Parcells will stay.

"Sparano joined Parcells in Dallas in 2003 as tight ends coach, became offensive line coach in 2005 and called plays for Parcells in 2006. He was promoted to assistant head coach last February." Not that it really matters, because one should judge his merits as an individual, rather than by the title he once held.

i'm not gonna get my hopes up too high, but as Ga. FinFan said,we have nowhere to go but up. with that said,i am hopeful that Sparano will do a good job coaching this team, and between him,Parcells,&Ireland,we'll draft some good players and bring in some hopefully good quality FA.

we all understand that any player can get injured on any play, but i think the guy was alluding to the fact that ronnie has a history of injuries, and ricky(while relatively healthy) is older and has a ton of carries under his belt.
